Fortum delivered a resilient performance in Q3 2024 amid seasonally low Nordic power prices. In the Generation segment, the achieved power price was lower than a year ago, but still at a good level supported by the versatile and competitive CO2-free fleet, successful hedging and a solid optimisation premium. Idag anordnade Föreningen Sveriges Vatten- och vindkraftskommuner och regioner ett fullsatt riksdagsseminarium om lokala incitament med deltagare från bransch, SKR, kommunala representanter och riksdagsledamöter. Under dagen gick de även ut med en debattartikel i Dagens samhälle om ämnet, där Fortums rapport ”Tre förslag om stärkta incitament för lokal kraftproduktion” lyfts fram. Vi fick även möjligheten att lyfta fram våra förslag för stärkta incitament under dagens seminarium. Regeringens besked om ersättning till ny vindkraft är ett viktigt första steg. Nästa steg bör bli att kommunerna ska få mer ersättning och att all fossilfri kraftproduktion ska inkluderas.

Today, October 16th, we celebrate World Food Day. As part of Fortum's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme, we are proud to announce a partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).    WFP brings life-saving relief in emergencies and uses food and cash assistance to build peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change. Last year alone, around 152 million people around the world received assistance from WFP.   Food scarcity is increasing in the world and famine is imminent for millions of people in conflict areas like Sudan and Gaza. This is why we have chosen to support WFP's Immediate Response Account (IRA), enabling WFP to respond to emergencies within 24 hours. Contributions to the life-saving IRA have the highest degree of flexibility and are non–earmarked. Both units at Loviisa nuclear power plant are back in production after completion of their annual outages ✅🏁 During the annual outage the first batch of Westinghouse Electric Company nuclear fuel has been loaded into Unit 2 in August. Cooperation with Westinghouse guarantees a reliable Western alternative for fuel deliveries to the Loviisa power plant. Loviisa 1 annual outage delayed by 9 days due to inspection and maintenance work, a delay in repairing a diesel generator, as well as a technical fault was detected in one of the control rods during tests carried out during plant start-up. ”Safety is our guiding star also in annual outage. Annual outages can sometimes uncover maintenance needs or defects that weren't anticipated, potentially delaying their completion. The equipment and systems are carefully inspected before the plant unit is returned to the network after annual outage”, says Sasu Valkamo, Senior Vice President of Loviisa power plant. What makes renewable hydrogen renewable? 🤔 The hydrogen industry has had a blast with colourful 🌈 labels—green hydrogen, blue hydrogen, and even pink hydrogen—each one trying to describe how hydrogen is made. Now the European policy­makers have decided on two hydrogen categories Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) and Low carbon fuels. Right now, the RFNBO regulations are all set, but the Low-Carbon Fuels, such as nuclear power, regulations are still in the works and eagerly awaited by the industry.  💡 Simplified RFNBO is hydrogen made using renewable energy sources like hydropower, wind, or solar power.  💡 However, there is a set of strict criteria aiming to ensure the production of RFNBO contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Vi behöver fler kvinnliga ledare i ingenjörsbranschen och samarbetet ger oss möjlighet att visa upp vad energibranschen har att erbjuda, men också att rekrytera unga talanger. Idag hade vi äran att välkomna deltagarna från Female Leader Engineer till vårt kontor i Solna! Dagen bjöd på spännande samtal om ledarskap och elmarknaden. Vi fick också lyssna på Katarina Atteryd Eckerwall, tidigare vinnare av Female Leader Engineer, som berättade om sin inspirerande resa på Fortum. Dagen avrundades med föreläsning om traiding och massor av mingel!   Tack Female Leader Engineer för en fantastisk dag! ⭐

We’ll need a balanced energy system to drive the transformation. During the Industry 4.0 conference, hosted by Dagens Industri on October 1st, a broad array of industry representatives gathered. Mats Persson, SVP Market Intelligence and Flexibility at Fortum, spoke about the need for a balanced energy system that can deliver clean energy at scale for the green transition. There was more than energy being discussed during the conference, from deep dives into AI driven development in many different aspects to discussions about the need to develop complete values chains in different regions to mitigate the effects of a growing regional protectionism. All of these topics will significantly impact both Fortum’s operating environment and the green transition.

We are pleased to strengthen our collaboration with Save the Children through our new partnership focusing on local projects in Fortum’s core markets.
