Warm tones and layered wooden furniture offer an authentic, unpretentious feel, while towering wood shelves, enabled by the high ceilings, divide the space into intimate nooks." Every design choice made leaves a footprint — it's up to the entire industry to ensure the footprint is a lighter one. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a comprehensive method used to evaluate the environmental impact of a product or material from its origin to its disposal. After completing our first commissioned LCA, we sought to deepen our expertise by conducting LCA calculations for two previous office renovation projects. Following the guidelines introduced by the Green Building Council Finland in early 2024, our goal is to publish these findings to facilitate comparisons for future projects. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the carbon footprint and other environmental impacts of interior space modifications, identify ways to reduce these effects, and highlight the significant role interior design choices play. We're eager to keep the conversation going and continue learning. After all, the only way to move the industry forward is by working together. Fyra had the honour of contributing to the design of Naantalin Punakallio, a unique villa nestled along the coast of Livonsaari. Collaborating on the concept and offering consultation and sparring, we worked closely with the villa’s owner who led the design process and creation of the plans and the exterior. The villa harmonizes effortlessly with its natural surroundings. Every fixture, fitting, and material was thoughtfully chosen to complement the property’s architecture, while a carefully curated colour palette emphasizes the expansive views. This exclusive villa, standing as a calm retreat by serene landscapes and the sea, is now available for rent on selected days through Stay North. How lovely see Villa Housu showcased on the pages of Svenskt Trä/Swedish Wood! Many thanks for the detailed article, Johanna Lundeberg. Located within the arctic landscape near Ylläs ski resort in Äkäslompolo, Villa Housu seamlessly snuggles into its surroundings. A dialogue between Fyra and Arkkitehtitoimisto Ark Helsinki, the holiday home is crafted to meet the demands of an active outdoor family without compromising on design integrity. The minimalist design choices and an extensive use of Finnish spruce radiate a sense of warmth and tranquility. #hospitalitydesign #microhospitality #fyradesignagency

No other location in the heart of Helsinki holds quite the iconic status as Aleksanterinkatu 13. Completed in 1900, the building was revolutionary – the first in Finland designed purely for commercial purposes. Inspired by the business building architecture of 19th-century Germany and Vienna, it was met with enthusiastic response, transforming for its part Helsinki into a modern European capital. The rich history of the building comes to life in Bouchon Carême, where robust and genuine materials create an easy-going atmosphere. The latest addition to the city’s dining scene by Välimäki Hans, Maria von Graevenitz-Välimäki, Arto Rastas and Miika Lönn, sits at the intersection of tradition and modernity. Bouchon Carême reimagines the classic Lyonnaise experience, inviting guests to savor timeless flavors with a contemporary twist. The restaurant’s appeal lies in its authenticity and unpretentious style. Warm, natural tones and layers created by the sturdy wooden furniture set the scene. Towering wooden shelves, made possible by the high ceilings, divide the space into intimate nooks, with a lively bar on the front of the house. Large windows invite in the passerby, casting soft light and showcasing the vibrant energy inside. The menu’s focus on high-quality, simple meat and vegetable dishes inspired the design of meat lockers, evoking the charm of a traditional butcher shop. The building’s identity and architecture play a key role in shaping the interior. A colour palette that complements the grand hallway honours the historical surroundings, while a modern market hall vibe ensures an approachable and genuine feel. The overall design is cozy yet bold, with details aligning with the style and carefully considered lighting throughout. The only way towards is circular. Fyra is proud to be among the first participants of the Circular Economy Green Deal, a voluntary commitment where participating organisations commit to reducing their use of natural resources and setting tangible goals to promote a low-carbon, circular economy. The journey towards the Green Deal began in spring 2022, with ministries inviting sectoral organisations, companies, regions, cities, municipalities and other parties to participate in the preparation process. Overseen by Ympäristöministeriö - Miljöministeriet - Ministry of the Environment of Finland, Green Deal provides an operator-led approach to collaboratively move towards circular economy and a circular economy market.  For us at Fyra, the Green Deal is an opportunity to embed circular economy design principles more deeply into our work, setting new benchmarks for the industry. We’re committed to providing our clients with circular economy solutions from the earliest stages of every project while building on our knowledge and gathering valuable data. As our first measure, we’re developing project-specific circular economy plans tailored to each project’s unique needs. The scope of each circular economy plan will align with the specific project at hand, whether it's new construction, renovation, principal planning, or furnishing projects. We’re refining our processes to monitor and improve the number of projects that incorporate these plans. As the second measure, we’ll focus on mapping the use of recycled materials and the extent of reuse in our work. With a clear understanding of where we stand, we’ll set ambitious targets to increase both the use of recycled materials and the level of material reuse across our projects. The first wave of participants includes A-Insinöörit, Borealis Polymers Oy, Porvoon kaupunki – Borgå stad – City of Porvoo, Skanska, Vantaan Energia Oy and Ylva. Great company to be in with an exciting journey ahead! Looking forward to seeing others join this significant commitment.
