Yesterday, the European Commission announced a proposal for major changes to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). How does the new omnibus proposal change CSRD reporting? The omnibus proposal raises the CSRD reporting threshold to companies with more than 1,000 employees, meaning that many SMEs will no longer be required to report. Should companies excluded from the scope of the CSRD by the omnibus proposal continue to report on ESG issues? Yes - investors, customers and partners still expect ESG transparency. Voluntary reporting keeps companies competitive, future-proofed, and aligned with sustainability goals. Keep in mind that this is only a proposal and the content may change.
