He repurposed a control panel lifting lug from a KONE MiniSpace™ DX elevator to create a sturdy entrance for a coal tit’s house, preventing squirrels from entering, and thus ensuring safety for its little ones! 🐦🪺💙 While the recent report by UN Environment Programme tells us emissions from the building and construction sector have stopped rising for the first time since 2020, we still have work to do. We’re constantly on the lookout for new innovations towards circular ways of building. 🌍 Breaking news: Emissions from building stop rising! 🌍 Emissions from the building and construction sector have stopped rising for the first time since 2020, a new UN Environment Programme (UNEP) report says. Despite continued urbanization, global emissions remained at the same rate in 2024 as in 2023. This is a significant achievement in our collective efforts to combat climate change! 🏢 Buildings and construction are responsible for over a third of global emissions. However, thanks to increased adoption of energy-efficient practices, renewable energy, and stringent building codes, the sector's emissions have stabilized. But the journey doesn't end here. We must continue to push for greater ambition and innovation to ensure a sustainable future for all. Taking the escalator at a metro station might be part of your regular daily commute, but did you ever think about how this enormous piece of machinery is installed deep underground? 🚇 It’s no easy job, requiring significant manpower and plenty of sturdy steel wire. Recently, we observed the impressive arrival of our escalator at Kamppi metro station in Helsinki, Finland. This 60-meter-long escalator will ensure that the 14 million yearly commuters can safely and smoothly access the new health center, which is scheduled to open in 2027. What a speedy start to an exciting week! David Vander Elst, our Regional Director for KONE Belgium & Luxembourg, arrived in style at MIPIM in Cannes, France. 🚲 Cycling with Les Cycles de l’Immobilier - Property Cycles, he took the impressive 700-kilometer journey to raise funds for Architectes Solidaires, which collaborates with architecture firms to improve the living and working environments of healthcare workers in France by, for example, renovating resting areas in hospitals. “This marks my second year doing this, and although challenging at times due to plenty of hills and some heavy rain, it is very rewarding. Though my legs are sore, I’m happy to support a cause that aligns with KONE’s purpose to shape the future of cities,” David comments.
