This year we are celebrating Meyer Turku's 10-year anniversary! 🥳 We remain dedicated to building the most advanced and sustainable ships in the world, with a clear focus on achieving a carbon neutral shipyard. 🍃 CEO Tim Meyer emphasizes the importance of Turku’s shipbuilding legacy: 🗨️ “We are proud to continue Turku's shipbuilding tradition dating back to 1737. The acquisition we made ten years ago was mainly based on two grounds: First, Turku has a long shipbuilding tradition and world-class know-how. The people of Meyer Turku and of the entire network form a community, the like of which is impossible to build in a short time. Secondly, thanks to the former, it is possible to build very large ships in Turku. In today's situation, where we are building the world's most advanced ships and pioneering in green transition, we are also constantly looking for more experts and employees for various tasks. We are committed to remaining owners of the Turku shipyard and to continuing the joint journey with all our partners towards increasingly sustainable shipbuilding. I am aiming at adding another zero behind the 1 in Meyer Turku's age.” We’re looking forward to leading the charge towards a sustainable future in shipbuilding! 🛳️ #MeyerTurku #SustainableShipbuilding #GreenTransition #CarbonNeutral #Shipyard #Anniversary

Our two Goliath gantry cranes are the most visible feature of our shipyard, but the smaller dockside cranes are also instrumental in getting materials into the ship. Crane 8 is the only dockside crane at the shipyard that is tall enough to be able to lift materials onto the top decks of the ship. 🏗️ Crane 8 has been in service since 1984, and recently it got a major technical overhaul, which included a full overhaul of the crane's electrical systems—new main components from ABB, safety enhancements, and even a complete replacement of the control cabin. The improvements have doubled the crane's lifting speed. 🗨️ "The goal was to boost energy efficiency, safety, and performance. The new tech allows for smoother operations and reduced maintenance. Now the only thing crane 8 needs is a new coat of paint!" says project manager Jaakko Riuttamäki. #MeyerTurku #Shipbuilding #Technology #Crane #Shipyard

The keel of the third Icon Class ship was laid at the Meyer Turku shipyard on Monday, October 7. 🗨️ "Icon 3 is a very important vessel for both the shipyard and the partner network. During its construction process, we get to see what a combination of high-level know-how and sister ship experience can achieve today. With our favorable order situation, we are constantly interested in skilled labor for the various stages of shipbuilding, from planning to implementation. Icon 3 will be an all-encompassing holiday experience to the tourism market, which is impatiently waiting for it," says Tim Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku. Icon 3 will be delivered to the customer in 2026. #Icon3 #MeyerTurku #RoyalCaribbean #KeelLaying #Shipbuilding 📸 Mediascope Productions

🚢 Exciting times at the Meyer Turku shipyard as Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas was successfully launched last week! The float out began with traditional festivities, including the firing of a ceremonial cannon. After this, the dry dock gates were opened, and the massive dry dock—measuring 16 meters deep, 80 meters wide, and 365 meters long—was filled with water, a 9-hour process. 🌊 Once the dry dock was fully flooded, the ship was carefully floated out and moved to the outfitting pier, where the final outfitting stages are now underway. Emptying the dock afterward took an additional 12 hours. Stay tuned for more updates as we bring Star one step closer to her maiden voyage! 📽️ Watch a video of the float out here: https://lnkd.in/d-C-BcNV 📷 Meyer Turku / Mediascope Productions #MeyerTurku #RoyalCaribbean #StarOfTheSeas #Floatout #Shipbuilding #Launching

🚢 MEYER Turku inspires future shipbuilders in Heureka Science Centre 🚢 This fall, visitors of Science Centre Heureka will get the chance to learn more about the exciting shipbuilding industry. The exhibition “On the Waves of Creativity” officially opened on September 25, 2024 and is the result of a collaboration together with Aalto University. Designing and building a cruise ship requires a lot of imagination, different people and many kinds of skills, for example problem solving, research, creativity, innovation and the ability to dream. It is especially important to consider how to make a cruise ship more sustainable, safe and remarkable. Each ship is the result of creative collaboration. By taking part in the exhibition, Meyer Turku hopes to inspire children and teens to consider an education and career in shipbuilding. Come and explore what kind of ship architect you would be! MEYER’s part of the exhibition is organised through the Business Finland and EU funded NEcOLEAP project. NEcOLEAP’s project cluster ‘People’ aims to secure future shipbuilding talent. Star of the Seas is propelled by three ABB XO-series Azipod thrusters. The Azipods were delivered to the shipyard with one less blade to make the transport easier. The last of the blades are attached to the thrusters, as we’re getting nearer to launch. Foreman Mikko Jalava says: "There’s still some fine-tuning left. We’re locking the bolts, and the port side blades have arrived from Portugal and are waiting to be attached.” ABB XO-series Azipods: 🔹 Power: 20 MW per Azipod 🔹 Weight: approximately 230 tons We’re almost ready for launch! 🌊 #Shipbuilding #Azipod #StarOfTheSeas #MeyerTurku #RoyalCaribbean
