Leading British Virgin Islands law firm, providing comprehensive #BVI legal services to global clients.
About us
The British Virgin Islands is a premier offshore financial jurisdiction, highly regarded for its progressive, yet stable, legal environment. In 1989, O’Neal Webster was among the first law firms to establish exclusively in the BVI to serve onshore and offshore corporate, commercial, finance, banking, business, property, and trust and estate clients. As such, the firm has accumulated a great wealth of knowledge and experience in addressing clients’ transactional, regulatory, and litigation matters in the jurisdiction. With deep roots in the BVI, the firm’s ability to navigate local governing bodies, courts, administrative offices, and enforcement regimes is a definitive advantage for international clients. The firm’s intimate jurisdictional knowledge and involvement in developing new BVI products and legislation are particularly notable for maximizing outcomes. Managing Partner Vanessa King is a director of BVI Finance, the organization responsible for the development and promotion of the jurisdiction’s financial services industry. Vanessa King and Partner Kerry Anderson (New York) sit on the legislative committee of BVI Finance, which reviews and proposes amendments to current financial services legislation and proposes new legislation to encourage business. Partner Christopher McKenzie (London), chair of the STEP BVI Legislation Drafting Committee, was instrumental in drafting the Virgin Islands Special Trust Act, which revolutionized the trust industry in the BVI. The practice earns recognition from international ranking bodies, including the Legal500, Chambers Global, IFLR1000, and Citywealth IFC. O'Neal Webster is a member firm of Lex Mundi, the world's largest association of independent law firms and is also a member of World Services Group (WSG), a global non-profit membership association whose members are leading local, national and international providers of professional business services in countries around the world.

STEP LatAm Conference 2024 was excellent and it is always a pleasure supporting the BVI Finance Limited team in promoting the jurisdiction. It was good to meet with many international service providers that look to the BVI for user friendly, efficient and effective solutions to their clients' personal and commercial needs .#BVI #finance #internationalbusiness #efficiency

I had the pleasure of viewing the Naomi in Fashion exhibition at the V&A museum thanks to Joan Johnson, TEP and the wonderful Praxis team who invited me to tea and a talk by the curator of the exhibition. It was an interesting look at Naomi’s 40 year career including her feature in Bob Marley’s 3 little birds music video and her work with Nelson Mandela. I left thinking about the impact influence and legacy of those of the Caribbean diaspora on the global landscape. Naomi (whose mother is Jamaican) broke barriers in the world of fashion with many first under her fashionable belt. There are so many other trailblazers hailing from the diaspora spanning many generations and in so many different fields. I hope my child and the children of the Caribbean see and know of these true influencers as they envision and create their role in this world. .

This is my second year as a judge of the STEP Private Client Awards, and I am again impressed by the quality of the nominees across all categories. The growth of the awards over the years is remarkable, showcasing the true diversity of the industry. Nominees from various jurisdictions within the STEP world, including the Caribbean and LatAm region, have made it to the final round. Excited for what promises to be an outstanding awards ceremony! #STEPPrivateClientAwards #Diversity #IndustryRecognition

The BVI minimum wage increase is on the horizon. BVI business owners should take this time to prepare for the November 30, 2024, minimum wage adjustment. The increase, from $6.00 per hour to $8.50 per hour, represents the first since 2016 and second in approximately 25 years. While mindful of the need to relieve those experiencing the brunt of the financial pressures, the BVI Government aimed to strike a balance between worker welfare and business continuity. Although increased operational costs could incite anxiety in some employers’ minds, there is reason for hope. The increase provides an opportunity for employers to assess aspects of their current operations to identify areas where they could be more efficient and creative in minimising overall costs while strengthening operational effectiveness.
