  • New construction is a rising emissions hotspot — how can we change that? The Sufficiency in the Building Sector: for the EU Whole Life Carbon Roadmap (Dec 2024) report highlights sufficiency — maximizing the use of existing buildings before constructing new ones — as a key solution. Key takeaways: ✅ Renovate first — prioritize reuse over demolition ✅ Optimize space — adapt buildings for flexible, multi-purpose use ✅ Design for longevity — ensure buildings can evolve over time Beyond reducing embodied carbon, sufficiency helps preserve green spaces, limit resource extraction, and curb urban sprawl — all while addressing housing shortages. EU policy is shifting to support these strategies, but more action is needed. • "The maturity difference is not necessarily just about markets — it's also in the sectors. In most operating countries, there is actually a degree of expertise, it may just be concentrated in a certain sector," explains Mark McKenna, Global Sustainability Director at Arcadis. His team at Arcadis is taking a pioneering approach to building sustainability capabilities across regions and industries. Rather than viewing markets as simply 'mature' or 'emerging', they identify and leverage existing pockets of expertise in specific sectors to drive broader adoption. Working with One Click LCA, Arcadis is developing training programs that reach beyond sustainability specialists because building true carbon literacy means empowering every business function. As Panu Pasanen, CEO and founder of One Click LCA, notes, this comprehensive approach is key to scaling sustainable practices globally. 👉 Watch the full conversation here: https://lnkd.in/dnTxJpRz Love what you learn from One Click LCA?  Subscribe to our biweekly newsletter: https://lnkd.in/dgeWbjcv Book a demo with a carbon expert today: https://lnkd.in/d9zKuEBh #SustainableConstruction #CarbonReduction #Construction #Arcadis #Infrastructure #NetZero #OneClickLCA #WholeLifeCarbon

The CSRD is here — are you ready? The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is now in effect, requiring over 71,000 companies to disclose GHG emissions, resource use, biodiversity impacts, and more. If your company operates in the EU or EEA, compliance isn’t optional — it’s mandatory.   Key reporting deadlines: ▪️ 2025 – Companies already covered under the NFRD ▪️ 2026 – Large companies meeting two of these criteria: 250+ employees, €50M+ turnover, or €25M+ assets ▪️ 2027 – Listed SMEs ▪️ 2029 – Non-EU companies with significant EU operations   To comply, businesses must follow the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) — ensuring standardized, transparent disclosures.   How can you ensure compliance? Our 7-step guide breaks down what you need to know.    Read the guide: https://lnkd.in/dGcfTsyC Love what you learn from One Click LCA?  Subscribe to our biweekly newsletter: https://lnkd.in/dgeWbjcv Book a demo with a carbon expert today: https://lnkd.in/d9zKuEBh     #CSRD #SustainabilityReporting #ESG #Decarbonization #GHGEmissions #OneClickLCA

  • "ENVI-met allows us to model true building shapes, apply materials, and simulate soil types and plants — offering powerful insights," says Stefan Ochsner, Project Manager & Architect at ARCO Architecture Company Finland.   At ARCO, ENVI-met is helping analyze the environmental impacts of designs at both the master plan level and detailed site scale. The focus? Mitigating urban heat island effects with green facades and roofs and optimizing wind conditions around key outdoor areas like entrances and public terraces.   As cities push for climate resilience, microclimate simulation is becoming essential for sustainable urban planning.   See ENVI-met in action: https://lnkd.in/dVNCQBYG   Love what you learn from One Click LCA?  Subscribe to our biweekly newsletter: https://lnkd.in/dgeWbjcv Book a demo with a carbon expert today: https://lnkd.in/d9zKuEBh #SustainableDesign #UrbanHeatIsland #ClimateResilience #ENVImet #OneClickLCA

  • The U.S. Climate Alliance, a bipartisan coalition of 24 states representing over half of the U.S. economy, has reaffirmed its commitment to the Paris Agreement. In a letter to the United Nations Climate Change Executive Secretary, Alliance Co-Chairs Governor Kathy Hochul of New York and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico write: “Our states and territories continue to… advance the climate solutions we need… It’s critical for the international community to know that climate action will continue in the U.S.” The Alliance has consistently brought this message to global climate forums and will continue to do so at COP30 in Brazil in 2025. Since 2005, U.S. states have collectively reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 19% while increasing their GDP by 30%, demonstrating that economic growth and decarbonization can progress together. Strategies include regional carbon markets, clean energy mandates, methane reduction programs, and infrastructure investments. Data-driven sustainability isn't just a buzzword at Hilti Group — it's a decade-long commitment that's now paying dividends. Graham B., Sustainability Project Manager at Hilti, reveals how their extensive life-cycle assessment (LCA) database has become a powerful asset in their decarbonization journey.   For the last 10 years, LCAs have been mandatory for all new Hilti products, creating a robust foundation for their Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitments. But what's truly exciting is how this data is driving innovation in unexpected ways.   "Re-engineering products to do more with less has opened new paths to carbon reduction," Graham explains. Think of structural fasteners that require fewer anchor points or drills that can bore more holes per battery charge — innovations that boost performance while cutting emissions.   Hilti's approach demonstrates how deep product knowledge, combined with sustainability goals, can unlock solutions that benefit both customers and the planet. Hilti's experience shows that with the right data and mindset, every design choice becomes an opportunity for carbon reduction. 👉 Watch the full interview to learn how Hilti is driving product circularity and carbon transparency: https://lnkd.in/diT-duha   Love what you learn from One Click LCA?  Subscribe to our biweekly newsletter: https://lnkd.in/dgeWbjcv Book a demo with a carbon expert today: https://lnkd.in/d9zKuEBh
