ecoinvent team members Simone Fazio and Francesco Cirone will present ecoinvent and the methodological advancement in the agricultural sector next week in the plenary session at the Associazione Rete Italiana LCA's XIX Conference of the Italian LCA Network Association. The Italian LCA Network Association aims to strengthen knowledge, expertise, and experience around LCA at the national level. It recognizes the importance of LCA in sustainable decision-making and seeks to generate approaches that can encourage organizations to adopt sustainable solutions while maintaining their competitiveness. ecoinvent represents the backbone database used extensively by researchers, businesses, and policymakers to create life cycle assessments (LCA) and assess the environmental performance of products and systems. Last week, the ecoinvent team visited the Eawag headquarters for our quarterly team meeting to connect and learn. We are incredibly thankful to Eawag for welcoming our team and providing tours of the Forum Chiesbach and through the modular research and innovation building NEST of Empa and Eawag, led by scientific experts. Eawag is an internationally leading research institute headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland and focused on pioneering strategies to preserve and provide water for both people and the environment. Thank you to Christian Stamm, Deputy Director of Eawag, for a thoughtful introduction to Eawag’s activities and the importance of continuing to develop water management systems during climate change. The ecoinvent database includes more than thirty different wastewater treatments to support research and life cycle assessments in this sector. At the IRTC | International Round Table on Materials Criticality conference I had the pleasure to co-host Session 2: Managing Environmental and Social Risks. We touched upon #traceability, environmental and social #LCA, and the tensions between the EU's critical raw materials strategy and regional water metal emission targets. Looking at the challenges of integrating different perspectives and deriving actionable insights, we also discussed the burden of data collection, the integration and communication of uncertainties, and information governance across different actors along the value chain. All along the #IRTC25, I was glad to be in touch with researchers and practitioners leveraging ecoinvent data for their assessments. Special thanks to my co-chair Jessica Buendía Sanchez and the speakers of session 2 Noura Rahbani, Daniel Monfort, Brenda M., and Ivan Vera for their valuable contributions! As we are wrapping up today, I'm excited to build on new insights and connections to foster future collaborations in the mining and metals sector.

Next week, Antonio Valente, Project Manager at ecoinvent, will deliver a lecture at Politecnico di Milano as part of a PhD course on Sustainability Metrics, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and Environmental Footprint.   Under the guidance of Prof. Monica Lavagna, this PhD course in the Department of Architecture, Built Environment, and Construction Engineering aims to equip students with the tools to measure environmental sustainability through metrics, enabling informed decision-making. The course will explore the LCA methodology in-depth with practical examples and exercises.   Antonio will lead a three-hour workshop on Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) and data quality, introducing the ecoinvent database and other key data systems.
