An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) accurately describes the environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle and is a well-established way to present verified information. But what is important to note when reading one? We gathered answers to some of the most essential questions about the new EPD standard (EN 15804+A2): https://shorturl.at/Mn5IJ #EPD #insulation #sustainability #ourimpact

Reduce heat loss. In a nutshell, that is the first and most important step in creating energy-efficient buildings, as shown in the so-called Kyoto Pyramid. Insulation is often the most cost-effective way to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy bills. In addition, improved insulation is an upgrade to living comfort since it reduces unwanted noises and keeps room temperature at the desired level. Taking 43 million cars off the road for one year. That would reduce CO2 emissions tremendously, right? Well, it equals the reduction of CO2 emissions that could potentially be achieved every year if inefficiently insulated buildings in the EU were properly insulated. The benefits of improving the energy efficiency of buildings are not limited to lower energy bills. Less energy used for heating and cooling buildings can also mean less CO2 emissions. In fact, the proper insulation of inefficiently insulated buildings in the EU could reduce CO2 emissions by a staggering 204 million tons every year. In the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) of PAROC® insulation products, modules B1–B5 read MNR, module not relevant. This means that in modules B1–B5, which declare the environmental impact from the product’s use stage, PAROC® insulation products do not generate any emissions at all. This is due to the long lifespan of PAROC® Stonewool. When used as designated, PAROC® Stonewool is maintenance-free and does not need to be replaced during the lifetime of a building. An EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) accurately describes the environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle. The EPD splits the product life cycle into stages and lists the GWP value (Global Warming Potential) for each stage. The combined total of stages A1–C4 represents the environmental impact throughout the product’s life cycle, and that’s why it’s the value we use at OC Paroc. “I believe that considering total life cycle emissions will become more common in the future. We are already communicating the CO2 emissions of our products’ total life cycles, as it provides the most comprehensive description of their environmental impact,” says Paroc’s Senior Sustainability Specialist Emelia Samuelsson. We have now broken ground for our sustainability investment at Paroc Hällekis! In April we announced that our plant in Hällekis is converting from coke-fired furnaces to electric melting which is estimated to reduce the plant’s scope 1 and 2 emissions by about 80 percent. Yesterday, together with local dignitaries, industry experts, key partners, authorities, employees and members of the community we celebrated the milestone on site. During the event Marie Stensson, Beatrice Hallén, Nicolas Del Monaco and Jari Airola spoke about the project and our commitment to sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We were also honored to have Johan Månsson, Chairman of Götene municipality board, to speak about the project’s regional impact. During the ceremony, we were excited announce a financial contribution to Hällekis IF, a local charity that creates activities and facilities for children to play and be active. We wish to thank everyone who attended and celebrated this important milestone with us! We are committed to achieving our greenhouse gas (GHG) targets and continue to invest in a sustainable future. An example? We are converting the melting process in our Hällekis insulation plant in Sweden from coke-fired furnaces to electric melting, estimated to reduce the plant’s scope 1 and 2 emissions by approximately 80%. The investment aligns with Owens Corning's science-based goal to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030 compared to a 2018 baseline. The project plan is scheduled to allow for a start-up in early 2027. The Hällekis plant was originally established in 1978 and will celebrate 50 years of operations in 2028. Stay tuned! Our insulation plant in Hällekis, Sweden, will be converting its melting process from coke-fired furnaces to electric melting, estimated to reduce the plant’s scope 1 and 2 emissions by approximately 80%. The project marks a big step forward in serving our customers across the Nordics with insulation that offers a low carbon footprint. Once converted, the plant situated in Sweden will serve customers also in nearby Denmark and Norway. The project plan is scheduled to allow for a start-up in early 2027. The Hällekis plant was originally established in 1978 and will celebrate 50 years of operations in 2028. Today the plant employs 250 people and manufactures stone wool insulation for use in building insulation and technical insulation applications.
