PrecisionPhage is delighted to announce 1M€ investment from Nordic Science Investment, Genetricum and Unifund for exploring future ways to confront contemporary problems. Antibiotic resistance is a growing issue as new antibiotics fail to enter the market while bacterial resistance – especially in hospital settings – keeps increasing. However, there are alternative solutions to fight bacteria. Instead of relying entirely on small molecule antibiotics, PrecisionPhage aims to utilize bacteria’s own predators - bacteriophages. In natural environments, phages keep bacterial populations in check. PrecisionPhage has a multifrontal approach to serve the emerging field of phage therapy: we offer well-characterized phages for licensing against most common drug-resistant pathogens, we develop bioinformatic tools for phage analysis during research and production, and we offer high-quality laboratory services for developmental steps. PrecisionPhage is working with international partners to develop deep-tech solutions to one of the most pressing problems in health care: antibiotic resistance. PrecisionPhage is founded upon decades of academic research on phages and antibiotic-resistant bacteria conducted at the University of Jyväskylä and the University of Helsinki, Finland. This deep scientific foundation enables us to develop solutions in the fight against antibiotic resistance, leveraging expertise in phage biology and bacterial interactions with antibacterial agents.
