The impact? → 10,000+ menstrual pads distributed to girls and women across rural Togo. → 7,000 pounds of fabric diverted from waste stream in our recycling program. → 22,975 school uniforms replaced. Under Armour wants to create a circular system by 2030🗓️👀 To transition their products back into recycled/reusable material after they've been used. They set high-reaching goals for the next several years↓ → Reach net zero emissions by 2050 → Reduce single-use plastics in packaging by 75% by 2030 → Repair and recycle 75% of damaged products by 2025 → Move to 100% renewable electricity in all facilities by 2030 Recycling for many manufacturers is the easiest point to start as it doesn't require changing the material flows. Would we change anything about their strategy? We'd love to see a bigger focus on D2C rental and reselling programs. 1️⃣There is a demand for a resale program with an independent Facebook group of 11,000 people reselling Under Armour clothing. 2️⃣The inventory allows for a rental model + the rentals in sport&outdoor are increasing. Industry revenue has grown at a CAGR of 3.0 % over the past five years to reach an estimated $957.3m in 2024. Let us know what are your thoughts on Under Amour's sustainability plan👋

Insight of the week: Start small. Test. Iterate🗒♻️ In a recent interview, Andrew Keith, ex-CEO of Selfridges, shared a lesson on launching rentals. Selfridges started with a rental range that was too broad - before testing demand. While ski wear for adults was doing well, children's wear wasn't meeting expectations. Lesson? Start small. Test. Iterate. You'll want to market validate your renting range to ensure you're set up for success before launching.

They aim to: → Lower carbon emissions by 53% by 2026 → Back up the traditional retail model → Diversify their core customer base → Make sports more accessible to everyone → Increase brand visibility After the successful trial, they've gradually expanded their rental offering to multiple sports equipment categories. 🖐️Read more at: https://lnkd.in/dX2bPEMj P.S. Since 2018, we've been helping businesses start, run, and grow recommerce models. 90% of our customers face these 3 friction points. 1️⃣ Modelling the business case 2️⃣ Planning and organizing the operational side of things 3️⃣ Setting up a feedback loop to track progress and alignment More tactical questions to help you kickstart a recommerce model↓ → What do we build internally/buy? (software and services) → How long does it take from start to ramp up? → How to set up the material-level processes? (reverse logistics, recycling, refurbishment, restocking) 👋Any questions? In 2011, Patagonia placed a provocative ad on Black Friday👀♻️ ‘Don’t buy this jacket’ campaign. To encourage people to: 1️⃣ purchase only what they need 2️⃣ consider the effect of consumerism on the environment A weird move for a clothing manufacturer? Not for Patagonia. The company initially made climbing equipment but changed its focus after Chouinard realised that climbing tools were causing damage to rocky cliffs. Patagonia remained true to its eco-friendly ethos ever since. This campaign established an even stronger sense of community for people who appreciate the brand’s values. 💭Thoughts?

One mistake when starting your circular revenue model? Over-investing time in various impact analyses. Hear us out↓ They are important, but quite often they don't define whether the initiative gets to live past the POC phase. They rarely also help you figure out whether to build or buy solutions - and from whom. Focus 80-90% of the initial time on modeling the business case. 1️⃣ Qualify what models make sense for each of your product categories (if any). 2️⃣ Identify the critical bottlenecks and profit drivers in the combinations of business models and product categories. After this, you are 10x better equipped to reach out to and qualify potential service providers. The time to quantify and optimize the handprint starts when you've proven to your organization that the initiative will live beyond a POC as a new profit stream.
