XPulse²: Advancing Medical Imaging for Cancer Detection As you already know, this month marks the fight against breast cancer. Let’s revisit some important information. As breast cancer affects nearly 1 in 8 women, developing advanced imaging technologies for early detection is crucial. The XPulse project, initially launched in 2019 and discussed in our previous post, aims to create a 3D medical imaging system using laser-generated X-ray sources with phase contrast to enhance screening and diagnosis. 👉 Entering a second phase in 2023, XPulse² is moving toward clinical trials. The team is focused on refining a compact, high-brightness X-ray laser source for more accurate, lower-dose breast cancer screening. Supported by Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine and FEDER, the consortium—led by ALPhANOV with Institut Bergonié, Amplitude Laser, Imagine Optic, and CELIA laboratory—is developing a 3D imaging prototype, already installed at Institut de Bio-imagerie (IBIO). This robust laser-driven X-ray source aims to bring the high power of large-scale facilities into a compact lab setting, combining absorption and phase contrast for unprecedented imaging resolution. As we mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Amplitude Laser Group is proud to share the progress made in the X-Pulse Project, a collaboration designed to push the limits of breast cancer detection through cutting-edge laser technology. In the past year, we’ve achieved remarkable results. Working closely with our partners, including ALPhANOV and the Institut Bergonié, we’ve increased the power of the laser-generated X-ray flux by tenfold. This is a crucial step towards clinical trials, where we aim to make a real difference in early detection. The X-Pulse system, based on phase contrast mammography, offers significant improvements: advanced image resolution, a reduced radiation dose for patients, and a much more comfortable experience without the need for breast compression. This project isn't just about innovation; it’s personal for so many of us. 🎤As Antoine Courjaud, Strategic Business Developer at Amplitude said, "Breast cancer is a fight that touches everyone, and at Amplitude, we’re using our expertise to make sure technology serves this cause in the most impactful way." We’re thankful for the continued support from our partners and the Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Together, we’re moving closer to offering this life-saving technology in hospitals.
