Summer is synonymous with a surge in travel, sometimes to faraway destinations, and often with an increased impact on the environment and marine ecosystems. But travelers can learn to both enjoy the process of going to another place while reducing their carbon footprint, and to protect the natural environment that brings us this joy when vacationing. During ChangeNOW 2024, speakers such as Daniela V. Fernandez (Sustainable Ocean Alliance), Lamya Essemlali (Sea Shepherd France) or Thomas Firh (Les Others) discussed the importance of sustainable travel and ocean preservation. They advocated for slower travel methods such as trains, hiking, biking and sailing, emphasizing the pleasure we can get from turning our journey into an adventure. At the same time, preserving the ocean from threats like deep-sea mining is crucial, and collective action is needed to ensure the health of marine life and ocean floors.
