AI for Land Degradation & Soil Monitoring 🛰️ Land degradation is a global crisis, reducing soil fertility, increasing erosion, and weakening the land’s ability to store carbon. But machine learning + remote sensing are transforming how we assess and regenerate degraded lands. 1. Mapping Degradation – AI-driven models analyze soil erosion, vegetation loss, and organic carbon depletion from satellite data to classify severity levels. 2. Forecasting Future Risks – ML predicts where and how fast degradation will spread, helping target restoration efforts before damage worsens. 3. AI for Restoration Planning – By combining climate, soil, and land use data, ML allows for data-driven decision making for optimizing strategies in restoring degraded land. 4. Monitoring Progress – Time-series ML models track regrowth, erosion reduction, and carbon accumulation, ensuring long-term impact. AI won’t solve land degradation alone. But it makes land restoration scalable, proactive, and measurable—a key tool for carbon markets, climate resilience, and sustainable agriculture. We can’t wait to share with you our upcoming AI regeneration models at Earth Plus! Stay tuned, they are coming soon! 🤩

Wonderful to see such big business action for a PFAS ban!
🤔 What do these 120 consumer brands have in common? 🧡 They all want to see a strict and comprehensive #PFAS ban in the European Union. Together these companies make up ChemSec’s PFAS Movement, representing a staggering €186 billion (in total revenue). 🇸🇪 Now, Swedish giant IKEA has decided to join the movement! 💬 “We are joining the PFAS movement since we recognise the major health and environmental problems PFAS cause globally. We have strict requirements to ensure our products are safe and healthy to use, and that they are produced with care. Since 2009, we have been phasing out PFAS from our supply chain, and in the journey ahead we want to work with others to share learnings and develop viable alternatives”, says Mirjam Luc, Requirement Manager at IKEA. ⏰ These companies are putting their feet down. It’s time for policymakers to do the same. Ban PFAS now.

The Secret is in the Soil. Without soil everything else is obsolete: health, economy, human civilisation… 1. It’s soil that nurtures plants, before they even sprout. Soil keeps them healthy and thriving. We don’t see it, but the secret is below the ground. And so is 25% of world biodiversity. 2. It’s soil that nurtures us too, through the food that we eat and water that we drink. Just think how long we can survive without eating. 8 to 20 days? No soil = no food = no us. 3. It’s soil that is the foundation of our thriving future. No businesses, no political disputes, no technological breakthroughs will matter, if there is no soil. Not even AI. The secret of life is in the soil. That’s why we are so passionate about soils and land restoration at Earth Plus. That’s why we are working hard with our partners: - to clean industrial soils from chemicals like PFAS, - and to restore agricultural lands for better fertility and yields. Because without soil everything else is obsolete. The secret is in the soil.

Bravo, Patagonia, for stopping PFAS use from spring 2025! As said in this video, even though ‘forever chemicals’ have very useful water repellent properties and are very efficient from an engineering point of view. They’ve become a human issue. Because their production process pollutes the environment. They do not decompose in nature. They are in our water, our soils and our food. They are in our bodies. If we don’t stop using them apart from critical applications (about 8% of current use) & clean up the existing pollution, the issue will only become much bigger. One study said: we’ll need more than a global GDP to clean them. At Earth Plus we are passionate about cleaning PFAS from soils together with our partner, C-biotech. We have a proprietary nature-based technology to extract PFAS from soils with plants. It’s the first phytoremediation solution in the world that works 5x faster & is 3x cheaper than alternatives! If your company is working with PFAS or used to work with it, send us a message today. Let’s do a meaningful project together! 💪🌱

We grew a chair from mycelium! 🍄 Just 7 days. And from mycelium spores, hemp and love, we made a chair to sit on! If we can grow a chair, imagine what else we can do: packaging, furniture, even entire homes! Mycelium is the material of the future! A way to break free from fossil fuels. And while we focus on ‘serious’ innovations like building insulation, this chair is a fun way to prove that everything is possible! Let’s grow our future together. 🌱 C-biotech

Hemp for a Green Economy 🌱 Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) is reclaiming its place as a key player in the green economy, offering innovative solutions to environmental and industrial challenges. In a review literature in 2019, researchers highlight the remarkable potential of hemp in areas such as construction, plastic composites, nutrition, textiles and biofuels— - a sustainable alternative to many synthetic and non-renewable materials. The key findings from the Review: 🏡 Carbon-negative construction: hemp-based materials provide carbon sequestration, insulation and durability, making it a superior alternative to conventional building materials. 🪧 Biocomposites: hemp fibers offer lightweight and durable alternatives to petroleum-based plastics already used in various industries, including automotive. 🌱 Nutrient-rich powerhouse: hemp seeds contain all 21 amino acids, essential fatty acids (omega 3 & 6) and high-quality protein, making them a superfood for human and animal nutrition. 👚 Textiles & paper: stronger than cotton and naturally resistant to pests, hemp offers an environmentally friendly alternative for the production of textiles and high-quality paper. 🚘 Biofuel revolution: hemp-based biodiesel and ethanol could reduce dependence on fossil fuels while improving air quality. As the global industry searches for sustainable alternatives, hemp can serve as a catalyst for innovation and reduce our dependence on synthetic and non-renewable resources. The revival of industrial hemp is not just an economic opportunity — it’s an environmental necessity. Reference: doi:10.3906/bot-1907-15 🚀 What do you think about the future of hemp? Could it become the basis for a truly circular bio-economy? Let’s discuss it! 👇

Did you know: soil monitoring is a key tool for climate change mitigation? Soils are not only the foundation of ecosystems, but also play a crucial role in climate change mitigation by storing vast amounts of carbon. With remote sensing techniques, we can track and analyze soil health to produce effective solutions combating climate change effects and sources. Remote sensing soil analysis impacts: - Carbon Sequestration Potential: Healthy soils store carbon for long periods, helping to reduce the amount of CO₂ in the atmosphere. Remote sensing helps us measure how much carbon is being stored. - Soil Moisture Monitoring: Keeping track of moisture levels ensures that soils remain resilient against droughts, aiding in carbon storage and agricultural productivity. - Erosion Detection: Preventing soil erosion protects carbon-rich soil from being lost to wind and water. - Salinity Mapping: Identifying high-salinity areas allows for targeted restoration and preserves soil’s ability to sequester carbon. Through soil monitoring and analysis, we can utilize soil’s full potential to create sustainable, climate-positive solutions that not only combat climate change but also ensure long-term environmental health. Have you used remote sensing for monitoring of your soils yet? Image source: https://lnkd.in/eBHJF4d5
