Unique geography alongside the North Sea presents an excellent opportunity for achieving 48-92 GW wind production, 100-183 GW sun production, and 16-45 GW hydrogen production by 2050. However, offshore and onshore energy production poses challenges for infrastructure due to high population density. And greater interconnection capacity will be required with neighbouring countries to deliver reliable supply. Using process bus over substation boundaries with multi-vendor line differential protection. The interoperability between the two different vendors is shown and the most challenging actions e.g. for the time synchronization are presented. The paper also highlights the whole IEC 61850 engineering process between different vendors and how traffic can be effective separated inside the substation by using VLAN tags.
