Investment Officer at EIT Manufacturing | Driving Growth in Sustainable Innovation | Supporting the Next Generation of Startups
Just wrapped up an exciting and insightful week at the #EuropeanManufacturingConference 2024 in Brussels! It was a pleasure to finally meet the #startups from EIT Manufacturing's #VentureBuildingProgramme we’ve been working with for the past three months. Getting to know them in person was truly inspiring. Hearing firsthand about the challenges they face—and how, through collaboration, those challenges can become opportunities—was a highlight of the week. Here are some key takeaways from the conference: 💡 Manufacturing & Competitiveness: Scaling innovation from lab to production remains a challenge. The #DraghiReport calls for more investment and a strong circularity plan to ensure Europe remains competitive, especially in #CleanTech. Additionally, promoting #genderequity in manufacturing is crucial for fostering innovation and diverse ideas. 🛡️ Defense Industry: Europe’s #defense sector needs greater self-reliance. The European Defence Fund is a positive step, but defense startups will be key in driving innovation, despite regulatory challenges. The brutal Russian invasion of sovereign #Ukraine has shown the urgency for Europe to bolster its defense capabilities and support allies. Startups’ ability to adapt quickly is essential for the future of defense. 🤖 AI is the Future: #AI will transform industries and society, but we must manage the risks. Educating the public on AI’s benefits and dangers, establishing #AIsafety regulations, and preparing for workforce shifts are crucial to leveraging AI’s potential responsibly. 🚀 Next Steps: Europe must streamline regulations, strengthen its #innovationecosystem, and move faster to stay competitive globally. Despite the many upcoming challenges for #Europeanmanufacturing, I’m excited to be part of the solution. These challenges are also opportunities to cooperate, innovate, and overcome them together. Lastly, it was a pleasure to connect with so many incredible people.
