------ EREMS can be proud of what it has achieved ! The Mars sample return mission has successfully completed its critical design review, marking an important step toward returning the first Mars samples to Earth. 🚀 For this mission, EREMS has fully designed and developed the Remote Interface Unit (RIU), of which you can see the photo of the EQM model integrated in our clean rooms. This equipment is embedded on the ERO and it aims to gather the data from all sensors and to control many equipment of the orbiter such as the attitude and orbit control systems, the solar arrays or the propulsion modules. The RIU will be in constant communication with the On Board Computer to ensure the success of the mission. Many thanks to the key players in the development of the RIU : European Space Agency - ESA Airbus Defence and Space A big congratulations to the entire EREMS team !
🚀 Today is good day: our European Earth Return Orbiter reaches design maturity! 🌌 I am proud to announce a major milestone in the Mars Sample Return campaign! ESA’s Earth Return Orbiter (ERO) has successfully completed its Platform Critical Design Review, marking a significant step towards bringing the first Mars samples back to Earth. 🌍🔴 🤔 What does it mean concretely? This critical design review confirms the performance, quality, and reliability of the systems for this ambitious and unprecedented mission, paving the way for the next phase: the integration and testing of components. With suppliers from 11 European countries, ERO is a testament to European technological prowess and international collaboration. 🔧 Key Contributions: - Airbus Defence and Space: Leading the mission development and conducting mission analysis from France, Germany and the UK. - Thales Alenia Space: Assembling the spacecraft, developing the communication system, and providing the orbit insertion module from Italy. ERO’s mission will involve capturing a basketball-sized capsule filled with Martian samples, launched by NASA’s Perseverance rover, and returning it to Earth. This complex “orbital dance” around Mars exemplifies our excellence in autonomous navigation and interplanetary operations. 🎉 Kudos to the Teams: A big shoutout to all the brilliant minds and dedicated teams across European industry, ESA and NASA who have made this possible! Your innovation, invaluable expertise hard work, and collaboration are truly inspiring. 🌟👏 🔭 And to say it in the words of Orson Sutherland, leading our Mars programme: "This mission exemplifies European technological prowess at its finest”. 🌌 More committed than ever to the scientific breakthrough we can expect from the Mars Sample Return mission, I can't wait for the next miles of the journey ahead of us and the incredible discoveries that await! We have important milestones on MSR ahead, but ESA stays ready next to NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration to do the outmost to make it happen! https://lnkd.in/eveF-Vue #ExcellenceInSpace #FutureOfSpace #SpaceScience #EuropeanSpaceAgency https://lnkd.in/eveF-Vue
