I'm thrilled to share that our installation "Material Transition, Learning from Grand Paris" is now on display at the 11th edition of the International Architecture Biennale of Rotterdam 2024, Nature of Hope, at the Nieuwe Instituut until October 13th! This installation marks a beautiful new step in our ongoing collaboration with Christina Eickmeier, co-founder of CHRITH architects. It presents our extensive research on the material transition in the building sector in France, particularly in Greater Paris, toward low-carbon materials. From a database of over a hundred projects in Île-de-France, we have curated 50 innovative projects from 33 architecture firms, showcasing the forefront of biobased and geobased construction. This movement, positioning France as a front runner in Europe in this field, is the result of a collective effort across the entire chain of stakeholders. Our installation also emphasizes key factors such as the role of public procurement, national regulations on embodied carbon, and the soon-to-be-voted new urban plan of Paris. By making the transition visible and tangible through those examples, we hope to foster enthusiasm for collective action towards virtuous practices. Come visit the installation at the Nieuwe Instituut and take some inspiration home with you ;) And don't hesitate to reach out to ask any questions or share your thoughts with us! A special thank you to Janna Bystrykh for inviting us to participate, as well as Saskia van Stein and the whole IABR team for making this possible. We deeply appreciate the precious support of Built by Nature, especially Peter Fraanje not only for this installation but also series of upcoming events we will announce soon! Many thanks as well to Agenda Stad and Koen Haer who commissioned the initial part of this study!
