A non-profit association of European space agencies, Eurisy works to bridge the gap between space and society
À propos
Eurisy is a European non-profit association of over 30 government space agencies and other organisations involved in space activities. Eurisy helps create stronger relations between civil society and public/private organisations involved in space activities, in order to help diffuse innovation derived from European investments in space. In particular, Eurisy makes emerging satellite solutions better known to potential end-users who can deploy them in many sectors of application: from transport to risk management, from habitat protection to energy, from climate change to the Internet of Things, to name but a few. By working with potential end-users on a grassroots level, Eurisy learns about their current and future needs and provides bottom-up feedback to decision-makers on possible measures to overcome obstacles for the diffusion of space-derived innovation in society. Eurisy was founded in 1989 by Hubert Curien, former French minister of Science and Technology, considered by many to be the “father of the European space programme”.

✨It's a full day of events for the Eurisy Team! Time for some insights from 📍Brussels at the Switch to Space event🚀 This initiative, led by Eurisy President Dominique Tilmans connects students and young professionals with space professionals and career opportunities in the sector. 🚀The morning kicked off with three insightful panels on VISION, CHALLENGES, and SOLUTIONS for the European Space sector. 📢 Discussions emphasised the concept of New Space, the critical role of start-ups in the European space ecosystem, and the importance of building bridges and networks. 🌍The CHALLENGES panel shed light on how 🛰️ space solutions can support sustainable actions and climate monitoring, and all panels underscored the need to link defence and space, especially given the current geopolitical climate. ✨ Experts and keynote speakers animated discussions, including Guillaume de La Brosse, Head of Unit for Space Innovation, Start-ups, and Economics at the European Commission’s DG DEFIS. 💡He reminded us that “we need people with passion and vocation for space” and highlighted the importance of engaging non-technical students for the future of the space sector. 🚀 ➡️More on: https://lnkd.in/dWDbNKTK

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has published a new article on the impact of a 3 degree Celsius temperature rise on cities, highlighting the major risks they face. 🌡️ Among other threats, the UNDRR mentions: 🔹 Longer and more frequent heat waves, with impacts on public health, working capacity and productivity. 🔹 Increased demand for energy and cooling, affecting both energy access and infrastructure in urban areas. 🔹Higher temperatures, favouring the proliferation of mosquitoes that transmit arboviruses (e.g. dengue, chikungunya). How will the UDENE project contribute to mitigating the effects of rising temperatures in cities? 🔹By providing a virtual laboratory for urban visionaries, planners and developers: the Exploration Tool. 🔹By making authoritative data from the Copernicus ecosystem more accessible to urban planners, decision-makers and citizens. 🔹By promoting strategic and data-driven urban planning to mitigate heat island effects in cities. As one of its use cases, UDENE will quantify and analyse the impact of a linked park system, taking into account local climate zones, on reducing the heat load within the urban environment of Tunis (Tunisia). ➡ Read more about the UDENE use-case: https://lnkd.in/eEAUnuCJ ➡ Read the article: https://lnkd.in/esPdF7-J EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme
Cities will suffer health and infrastructure crisis under 3° C vs. 1.5° C warming, with low-income cities worst impacted
