it's hard to believe after the terrible images coming from Spain,Italy or France, but there are now water shortages in Europe, for example in Bulgaria. On the occasion of the nearing 90th anniversary of the Hoover Dam, this environmentalist publication makes a great abstract of the contributions of the dam to sustainable development, reminding all the different roles of a large dam, beyond hydropower. Voilà un modèle de coopération gagnant-gagnant : le Népal et le Bhoutan vont s'équiper d'infrastructures de production d'électricité propre et l'Inde va réduire ses émissions de carbone, puisque l'électricité provenant de ces nouvelles infrastructures remplacera l'électricité des centrales à charbon. This is a model of win-win cooperation: Nepal and Bhutan will be equipped with clean electricity production infrastructures, and India will reduce its carbon emissions as the electricity generated by these new infrastructures will replace electricity from coal-fired power plants.

#ICOLD2024 #NewDelhi Technical Committees International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) Meeting of Chairs and Co-Chairs including the ICOLD Young Professionals Forum (ICOLD-YPF) Today, we are holding the meeting where all 37 ICOLD technical committees share their activities, mainly focused on addressing current technical issues related to the planning, design, construction and operation of #dams and #reservoirs Each Technical Committee is given a mandate by the General Assembly and works for 3 or 4 years to develop technical #bulletins / #guidelines that are a reference for the industry. Every year we prepare #workshops, #seminars and #courses to disseminate recognized good practice during our meetings. Wadi Derna Dam Failure Workshop A workshop on the Wadi Derna Dams Failure in September 10, 2023 will be held during the 92nd Annual Meeting of ICOLD in New Delhi on October1, 2024 (13:30 - 15:30 Delhi Time). The Joint Report of Commission Internationale des Grands Barrages (CIGB) - ICOLD, UNESCO, The World Bank and the Dutch Disaster Risk Reduction and Surge Support (DRRS) will be presented. It will be followed by a Roundtable and a Q&A session. The report aims to provide an independent assessment of the probable failure scenario associated with the collapse of the Bu Mansour and Derna dams during the flood generated by the storm Daniel. The consequences of these failures have been among the most significant in the world for decades. The Dam Community must learn from this disaster.
