À propos

To prepare for the future, we look to the past. As a new reality sets in at KENZO, Artistic Director Nigo reconnects with the values entrenched in the early beginnings of the Maison: designer fashion created for real life, imbued with the playful urbanity of Kenzo Takada’s timeless legacy. A creative exchange, KENZO becomes an evolving dialogue between the pop culture of the founder’s heritage and the street culture inherent to Nigo. Through Nigo’s instinct for contemporary design, a new vision takes shape at KENZO: ‘real-to-wear’, a genuine wardrobe founded in the authentic desires of the post-digital mentality. It is a realistic approach to fashion, which transcends the conventional labels of ‘formal’, ‘casual’ or ‘street’ in favour of the syntheses that make up real wardrobes today. A series of encounters take place: the everlasting codes of KENZO are considered through an instant lens, the ‘Jungle’ fashion of its founder is distilled into succinctly covetable items, and a new sense of exclusivity heightens the universal appeal key to the Maison’s history. In the encounter between the founder and the heir, the core of KENZO is amplified: unconventional fashion for the future rooted in the permanence of its past.

KENZO FW24 COLLECTION POP-UP IN PARIS Join us at the exclusive pop-up in Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann from September 3rd to 23rd, where the Maison’s Artistic Director, #Nigo, unveils the KENZO FW24 collection, bringing the intergalactic vision back to Earth. The space journey symbolizes the multicultural message that transcends borders, which lies at the heart of his creative approach.   Nigo captured the wonders of nature through a sci-fi lens, with the volcanic landscapes of Lanzarote serving as the backdrop for this collection. The collection is inspired by the exchange between East and West in fantasy films. #KENZONIGO #KENZOFW24

The KENZO Fall-Winter 2024 campaign by #Nigo features the collection’s Japanese-infused sci-fi uniforms: a kimono coat imbued with the lines of a warrior cape, a weave inspired by the wood print of a Japanese hakeshi baten fireman’s jacket evoking an ancient-future graphic, and  a plissé dress draped like the cloak of a space fiction heroine. In a dialogue between Outer Space and the Earth, hand-spun and tactile textures like faux fur, three-dimensional knitting and the KENZO Weave patterns are contrasted by sci-fi-esque metallics. A miniature dot pattern informed by the Edo Komon of fifteenth-century kimonos re-emerges as a star constellation in prints and embroideries. Space-bound flight jackets, cargo suits and shearling jackets are elusively embedded with the codes of another universe. #KENZONIGO #KENZOFW24

KENZO by Nigo: Women’s and Men’s Fall-Winter 2024 Campaign LANDING IN A NEW WORLD: an earthbound mission for all mankind. For the KENZO Fall-Winter 2024 Women’s and Men’s Collection campaign, #Nigo points the season’s intergalactic telescope to Planet Earth. Employing space travel as a metaphor for the cross-continental and multi-cultural message at the heart of his practice, the Artistic Director portrays the wonders of nature in their inherent sci-fi glory. The volcanic landscapes of Lanzarote serve as otherworldly backdrops for a collection inspired by the inspirational exchange between East and West in period and fantasy cinema. The campaign was captured in still imagery by Johnny Dufort and in still and moving imagery by Frank Lebon, respectively. Guided by George Lucas’ use of the samurai films of Akira Kurosawa in the creation of the Star Wars universe – an original, complete fantasy culture like no other – the imagery pays tribute to the hand-painted sensibility of the space opera’s sets and its saturated lighting. Photographed at the rocky and dramatic landmarks of El Volcancito, Charco de los Clicos and Teseguite, the campaign’s ensemble cast poses in portraits capturing the multi-faceted diversity of humanity: the alien species that inhabits Planet Earth, from East to West and everywhere in between. Shot in the dark, a series of short films scored by Kazuki Ubukata’s  i.e.h.a. depict the stars of the campaign roaming the almost Martian terrain of Lanzarote like earthlings on another planet. #KENZONIGO #KENZOFW24

KENZOLOGY: the study of an evolutionary wardrobe cultivated from the bridge-building perspective of a Japanese designer in Paris. The KENZO Spring-Summer 2025 Women’s and Men’s Collection reinforces and refines the culturally interwoven language developed by #Nigo at the Maison. Staged on the golden soil of the Palais-Royal – a location dear to the heart of the Artistic Director – it is a natural florescence of the cross-pollination found at the core of KENZO: a stylistic ecosystem nurtured by Nigo’s creative exchange with the archives of Kenzo Takada, the dress codes of their shared Japanese heritage, and the Parisian spirit of the Maison. Cultured by time, the expression unfolds in silhouettes, constructions and techniques that become entirely their own, rendered in the vibrant colours of origami paper across re-imagined adaptations of archival motifs. In his second creative exchange with KENZO, the Japanese graphic artist Verdy – a long-time friend of Nigo – applies his animated signature to the Maison’s iconography. The show’s soundtrack was produced by WhoJiggi with additional co-production by Ero, Jaystolaa and Sekai.
