MDRS Crew 311 (SUPAERO)

🚀 This week, I am proud to be at the IAC2024 in Milano to present the results of an experiment conducted last year during the MDRS 293 analog mission. 👨🚀 We designed and implemented AMI (Anomaly Monitoring Interface), which aims at enhancing the fidelity of the mission by simulating a central operating system for the MDRS. 👉 AMI: an interface to increase the fidelity of analog space missions (IAC-24,E5,6,5,x89832) 🗓️ Friday 18/10 at 13h45 📍 Turquoise Hall 2 This presentation is part of the 35th symposium on Space and Society, in the session focusing on simulating Space Habitations. C'est avec un grand plaisir et une immense fierté que j'ai représenté la MDRS à la Journée Porte Ouverte de l'ISAE-SUPAERO ce samedi 12 octobre, aux côtés de trois de mes équipiers Quentin Berlemont, Meddi Moumouni et Robin Gorius. J'ai eu le plaisir de partager ma passion pour l'aérospatiale avec de nombreux visiteurs curieux. 🔴 [MISSION SUR MARS] MDRS Crew 293 (SUPAERO) est de retour de sa mission analogue de quatre semaines dans la MDRS - Mars Desert Research Station - de The Mars Society dans l'Utah ! 🚀 Une étendue rouge, bosselée, aride et hostile : le désert de l’Utah ressemble à s’y méprendre aux cartes postales envoyées par les rovers martiens. C’est pourquoi la Mars Society, une organisation à but non lucratif qui promeut l’exploration de la planète rouge, y a installé une base, la MDRS (Mars Desert Research Station). Des équipages venus du monde entier s’y succèdent pour vivre une simulation de vie martienne. L'équipage 293 était composé de sept étudiants de l'ISAE-SUPAERO. À travers le Club MARS, l'un des 145 clubs étudiants du campus, l'Institut envoie depuis dix ans des volontaires pour cette mission analogique d'#astronaute, c'est-à-dire reproduire sur Terre les conditions de vie d'une longue mission dans l'#espace. Au-delà d’une aventure de vie spatiale, l’expédition MDRS est en effet un projet de recherche qu’il faut bien préparer. Tests des performances cognitives, équipements et technologies en milieu extrême ou désertique, expériences atmosphériques : les sujets d'étude ne manquent pas. L’ISAE-SUPAERO contribue depuis 1970 par ses activités de formation, de recherche et d’innovation aux avancées de l’ère spatiale. Seul organisme français à dispenser des formations diplômantes (ingénieurs, master, mastères spécialisés, doctorat) couvrant toutes les 22 thématiques spatiales identifiées par le CNES, l’Institut constitue une voie royale vers les carrières spatiales. 🔎 Lisez-en plus sur leur aventure #martienne 👉 https://swll.to/e4uFx

[SOL 26]: A New Chapter 🌍 ➡ Link to the full report: https://lnkd.in/eqz_fNeE 🌍 We started the day knowing very well that it would be our #last morning in simulation… The mood was very different than usual: EVA cancelled, lights off, the end of the simulation getting closer and closer… We took advantage of being all #together at the station to start and organize our luggage, to store and clean all the modules. 🌍 The last sessions of the #neuroergonomics experiment and the last cognitive tests took place this morning. It is the #end of studies and experiments for Crew 293! We had fixed 4 P.M as the end of #simulation time, to retrieve atmospheric instruments. 🌍 We opened the airlock: we were officially back on #Earth! We could breathe Earth’s air as much as we wanted. We under-estimated the #happiness this recovered sensation would create! 🌍 Ending the simulation doesn’t mean that the #research stops! We still have to handle data, give feedback about results and procedures to researchers, and much, much more… The end of the simulation is just the beginning of a new chapter for Crew 293! 🌍 Crew 293 signing off, thank you for following our journey ! 👩🏻🚀

[SOL 25]: Happy Birthday Commander! 🎂 ➡ Link to the full report: https://lnkd.in/er4fBsuW 🎂 Marie and Léa went to reach checkpoints placed at Kissing Camel Ridge. The EVA Crew was helped by high schoolers from the Centre National d'Études Spatiales’ project PROXIMARS. They helped preparing protocols for both before and during the EVA. This last photogrammetry’s EVA marks the end of the experiment inside the station. 🎂 Today was the birthday of Marie Delaroche, our Commander! We sang “Happy Birthday” and offered a bouquet of #sunflowers from the GreenHab! Marie was very moved and happy to celebrate her #birthday with the Crew, in the station, in this unique context! 🎂 We had cognitive tests for the Orbital Architecture experiment and session of the TILT experiment, given by the Neuroergonomic department of our school ISAE-SUPAERO. Marie and I performed a session of the EchoFinder experiment, it was the last one of the mission! 🎂 Ending experiments one by one made us realize that we are leaving tomorrow … but we still have a lot of #work to do!

[SOL 24]: Mission objective: Save the station! 🌞 ➡ Link to the full report: https://lnkd.in/eDZpeZ7C 🌞 This morning, our task led us to the atmospheric instruments' site to replace batteries and recover #data from previous days. Leo particularly relished the opportunity to test our experiment and quicken our search pace. As we anticipate Marie and Léa's endeavor with a 2D map, they strategize for tomorrow's excursion. 🌞 In parallel, the rest of the Crew dedicated themselves to various tasks. Some tended to the GreenHab, observed the #sun for our Crew Astronomer, or troubleshooted the EchoFinder #equipment. Inside the Hab, Erin processed morning EVA photos alongside Lise, engrossed in her computer work. 🌞 Suddenly, an #alarm sounded, signaling a real #emergency: a damaged tunnel caused depressurization within the station. Following safety procedures, we swiftly initiated an emergency EVA to rectify the issue. Dividing tasks between interior and exterior fixes, communication was key as we collaborated to restore the tunnel's integrity within one hour. Grateful for our #successful repair, we settled into the evening, contemplating mission end logistics amidst exhaustion from an unprecedented double EVA day. 🌞 See you tomorrow ! 👩🏻🚀

[SOL 23]: The calm before the storm 🌀 ➡ Link to the full report: https://lnkd.in/eD_MEnai 🌀 Today was our last day of mission without performing an EVA. This morning, Mathurin and Erin tried to find a solution to a problem we have with our outreach experiment, built with high-school #students , to grow plants in Martian soil. Léa continued working on her code which enables her to analyze sunspots on Sun’s pictures taken thanks to the Solar #Observatory. Yves and Lise finished to prepare the Kissing Camel Ridge 3D map made thanks to photogrammetry during yesterday’s EVA. 🌀 Marie and Leo were cooking for us for the last MELiSSA meal of the mission. The end of this #experiment made us realize the amount of data we produced during four weeks of mission, and how much productive we were! We can’t wait to give feedbacks to the researchers about the experiment we conducted, and especially we can’t wait to see the results provided to science thanks to our #mission ! 🌀 Being seven in the Crew enables us to split the #tasks and to be efficient on each experiment we brought with us to the #stations .
