🗓️ Join us on 17 March, from 15:00 to 16:15 CET, for an OECD - OCDE Green Talks LIVE webinar on adapting cities to growing water scarcity. By 2050, 2 billion urban dwellers could face drought risks—twice as many as today. Urban areas are particularly vulnerable due to high soil sealing, limited groundwater storage, and rising temperatures, which amplify drought severity. In Europe alone, drought events have surged by 29% since 2000. Without bold climate adaptation, the socio-economic toll on cities could be devastating. Sophie Lavaud, OECD Policy Analyst, will present key findings from the new report Adapting the Paris Metropolitan Area to a Water-Scarce Future. She will be joined by Blanca JIMENEZ CISNEROS, Ambassador of Mexico to the OECD and Charles HAZET, Deputy Head of the Water Preservation Direction at the Ministères Aménagement du territoire Transition écologique. The talk will be moderated by Jo Tyndall, Director, OECD Environment Directorate. Eastern Macedonia-Thrace’s (RAMTh) strategic location at the border of Greece and the EU presents significant opportunities for growth and internationalisation. Realising this potential requires targeted actions to enhance the region’s attractiveness to investors, talent, and visitors. On 27 February, the OECD - OCDE presented the Regional Attractiveness Case Study of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace to the Regional Governor, Mr Christodoulos Topsidis, and shared key findings at the East Macedonia-Thrace Forum. ✅The study outlines concrete actions to strengthen the region’s economy and create more new opportunities to businesses and communities, drawing on international good practices. 6 key areas for action: 🔵Unlock the commercial potential of the Port of Alexandroupolis 🔵Better leverage industrial zones and incubators 🔵Develop a regional talent strategy, with targeted initiatives 🔵Promote balanced tourism through new thematic routes 🔵Streamline FDI assessment processes 🔵Boost regional and local government capacities 📍Eastern Macedonia-Thrace is one of 11 regions in the "Rethinking regional attractiveness for a green and inclusive globalisation," initiative, supported by European Commission's DG REGIO. 🔗 Read the report: https://lnkd.in/drYN_SWF Read more about the #OECD’s work on regional attractiveness: 🔗 https://bit.ly/3X4bvdX
