Earlier this month, our team travelled to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, as part of the Roads4People programme 🇨🇮 This innovative public-private partnership was designed to support rural infrastructure development in developing countries and foster resilient, inclusive, and sustainable growth. As a co-founding partner alongside UNIDO, we are proud to contribute to an initiative to address the infrastructure needs of rural areas in developing countries. These areas are often underserved despite being home to significant vulnerable populations. Here is what was on the agenda for our Ivorian mission: 👉 Present the initial outcomes of early activities 👉 Define the next steps for advancing ongoing implementation 👉 Ensure alignment of the project with local needs and priorities 👉 Initiate discussion on structuring a Rural Roads Fund  👉 Foster stakeholder engagement and national ownership of the project We were thrilled to meet with key stakeholders from the Government of Côte d’Ivoire and partner development banks and accelerate our joint efforts for the progress of the Roads4People pilot initiative for the country 🚀 Their collaboration is key to driving sustainable road infrastructure development and making a tangible impact on rural communities. We are thrilled to have won the International Road Federation (IRF) - Official award in the “Decarbonisation & Circular Economy” category with Die Autobahn GmbH des Bundes 🤩 From this great collaboration, we were able to set up a systematic assessment of their projects’ footprint with our platform. The results showed that decarbonisation was indeed possible: ✅ 13 projects assessed ✅ 8,000t of CO2 equivalent reductions were identified 👉 This represents a reduction of 17% on average per project. Innovation plays a crucial role in enhancing decarbonisation and the circular economy. What did we learn from our time at this year’s Highways UK? 👉 That sustainability was the queen of the ball Yes, sustainability in the infrastructure industry flies high, which is excellent. It proves the industry has realised it needs a different approach when conceiving infrastructure projects 👌 Solutions are emerging from all over the world with keywords like sustainability, LCA, and carbon footprint.
