The European Environment Agency released its report on Europe's state of water 2024: the need for improved water resilience yesterday. It is most welcome to remind us about the priorities we still need to address. We know the facts, the challenges and the need for the huge amount of investments required, and despite the European regulations and the recent focus on #waterresilience as a priority for the new European Commission, the inertia and the lack of urgency are still major hindrances to reach sustainable water resources management and efficient water use. The European Water Tech Accelerator is pleased to note that the report highlights #waterinnovation as a key response. The report says that Europe must urgently enhance its water resilience to ensure a sustainable supply of freshwater, with support from #investments AND #INNOVATION. Building #waterresilience will require innovations, adaptation, and transformation, along with coordinated actions across sectors like energy, agriculture, and industry. More innovations are needed to meet ambitious goals, such as for instance reducing micropollutant releases. #Europe needs to strive towards water resilience. It ALSO needs to strive towards supporting deployment of innovations. The future Start-ups and Scale-ups Water Summit we will be holding in January 2025 will aim to address this issue as a collective action. Inaction will cost all industrial sectors and society much more than action. The 2024 state of water in brief: 💧 Europe's water supply is facing significant challenges, prompting the need for improved resilience and sustainable freshwater sources. Water stress impacts 20% of Europe's territory annually. 💧 The Water Framework Directive set goals for water bodies to reach good status by 2015, yet only 37% achieved high ecological status in 2021. Chemical status remains a concern, with long-lived pollutants hindering progress. Agriculture poses the greatest pressure on water quality. 💧 Groundwater faces challenges from nitrates and pesticides. 💧 Europe must enhance water resilience amid climate change. Accurate data on water quantity and quality are necessary for sound management and equitable allocation of resources. 💧 Effective water management practices must adapt to rapid environmental changes to ensure water security and minimize pollution. Encouraging sustainable water use and #investing in #waterinfrastructure are key elements in safeguarding Europe's water resources for future generations. https://lnkd.in/dUkiAwUq Jacob TompkinsOrianna BretschgerBruno AbreuLiviu Mantescu, Dr.Gregoire de HemptinneJamie SpotswoodFraser MacLeodJohnny Alexander GunnengWill SarniAvent BezuidenhoudtBertrand Vallet

Environnement et énergies renouvelables
The European platform to connect and scale
À propos
It is the first “one-stop shop” of its kind to focus on European water technologies and markets. It was set up in 2020. Its objectives are to support and scale innovative European water technologies and entrepreneurs and accelerate solutions to water challenges through innovation. We work closely with the start-ups to shape their team, make their technology and business strategy ready for unprecedented access to European market and funding and for scale up. We work closely with each start-up because we think each one is unique and the ‘one size fits all’ model does not fit with the water sector.

Just finish up a week with team Arup, The European Water Tech Accelerator and InfoTiles Digital Water in Stavanger Business Region Could probably written up how epic the week was, but instead I would like to give some kudos to the local places that provided the backdrop 🙏 First, want to shout out to the crazy bunch at Boretunet. Thanks Hanne and co for your heart felt hospitality and trying your best to get us standing on the surf board 🏄 Next up is Irene Granum Aase and Preikestolen BaseCamp for providing the perfect scenery for the final dinner. If you could have removed the fog at the top you would get 11/10 🌄 Lasty Nordic Edge and Innoasis for second to none location for co-creation in the middle of Stavanger kommune. Note 2 self, brush up on the picture taking skills. Be like water and stay epic 🌊

🌧️ Here comes the rainy season! For many utilities and municipalities, #inflow and #infiltration (I&I) can account for 20-50% of the annual sewer flow. During heavy rain or snowmelt, that number can soar even higher, creating significant cost and operational challenges. We've been working closely with Håbo kommun (Håbo municipality) in Sweden to trial a digital solution that reduces I&I costs in wastewater management. Magne Eide, chief operating officer at InfoTiles, reveals how the collaboration has helped the municipality achieve more informed decision-making and gain a deeper understanding of its water network. 👉 Read the full case study here https://lnkd.in/dhuZqik2
