We are transforming our portfolio to tackle the challenge of packaging waste. To achieve this, we have developed a three-pillar strategy that consists of eliminating unnecessary packaging, redesigning our remaining packaging for circularity, and investing to close the loop.

As the Global Packaging Sustainability Lead, you will play a crucial role in developing and executing sustainable packaging strategies and capabilities within Royal Canin, ensuring that packaging design aligns with sustainability goals while meeting business and regulatory requirements.

What are we looking for?

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Materials Science, Packaging Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in sustainable packaging or related roles.
• Deep understanding of sustainable packaging principles, best practices, and industry trends.
• Strong knowledge of packaging materials, recycling processes, and circular economy principles.
• Proven track record in successfully implementing sustainable packaging initiatives
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Deep passion for sustainability and its impact on the planet, people, and pets.
• Experience in social/humanitarian fields is advantageous.
  
  

What will be your key responsibilities?

Strategy Development & Planning

• Create and implement global packaging sustainability strategies that align with our OGSM, external commitments, and industry-leading practices.
• Establish short and long term sustainability objectives for packaging materials and processes.
• Track industry trends, regulatory updates, technological advancements and innovations in sustainable packaging to enhance Royal Canin’s pack sustainability strategy.
  
  

Provide Technical Leadership

• Provide technical guidance in selecting and utilizing sustainable packaging materials.
• Assess and adopt innovative packaging technologies and materials that minimize environmental impact.
• Oversee the lifecycle analysis of packaging solutions to ensure environmental efficiency.
  
  

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with R&D, Demand, Commercial, Marketing, and Supply Chain teams to embed sustainability into packaging design and development.
• Collaborate with suppliers and partners to identify and deploy sustainable packaging materials and solutions.
  
  

Compliance, Performance Monitoring And Reporting

• Ensure packaging solutions adhere to environmental regulations and standards at local, regional, and global levels.
• Conduct periodic strategic reviews of Royal Canin’s pack sustainability goals, plans, and targets, ensuring that KPIs, reporting, and management methods effectively drive results.
• Prepare and present reports on packaging sustainability initiatives, performance metrics, and investment updates through the Sustainability Governance processes.
  
  

Innovation And Continuous Improvement

• Cultivate a culture of innovation by investigating and testing new sustainable packaging concepts.
• Lead initiatives to advance packaging sustainability, such as reducing material use, enhancing recyclability, and lowering carbon footprint.
• Promote continuous improvement efforts to boost packaging sustainability and operational efficiency.
  
  

Stakeholder Engagement

• Convey Royal Canin’s packaging sustainability efforts and successes to internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide training and support to internal teams on sustainable packaging practices and business commitments.
• Regularly engage with the Global Leadership Team (GLT) on packaging sustainability topics.
• Act as Royal Canin’s representative in the Global Mars Packaging Sustainability Workstreams.
• Represent Royal Canin at external sustainability conferences, forums, and industry events.
• Interact with regulatory bodies, industry groups, and NGOs to keep abreast of evolving pack sustainability standards and practices.
