Even in the current climate a transformative approach to employment is taking root here in Tamaki, reshaping how we think about work and its role in society. This isn't just about job creation; it's about forging life-changing opportunities that uplift our communities, particularly those underserved, who seek not just employment but a chance for a real transformation. As someone deeply embedded in the intersection of innovative employers and the vibrant, often overlooked communities of Auckland, I've seen the profound impact sustainable employment can have. It's not merely about the money (even though this is a key factor to uplifting our people), it's about building a future where everyone can thrive, supported by employers who see beyond the bottom line. Our unique cultural diversity and dynamic economy make it a fertile ground for sustainable employment practices. These practices go beyond offering long-term job security. They encompass roles that support individual growth, adapt to changing life circumstances, and provide a foundation for both personal and professional advancement. For our underserved communities, this means opportunities that honour their diverse needs, challenges, and ambitions. In Auckland, progressive employers are not just participants in the job market; they are leaders in societal transformation. With the employers I work with I see them as architects of change. They understand their pivotal role in shaping a future that is inclusive and equitable. And do I strongly recommend they throw away their old way of doing things? YES. By crafting roles that are flexible and supportive, offering at least living wage to entry level employees, offering comprehensive training that includes personal development and acknowledging the holistic needs of their employees, these visionary employers are setting a new standard. They're proving that when businesses invest in the wellbeing of their workforce, including mental health support and mentorship, the returns extend far beyond the financial. The journey to sustainable employment here in Auckland is a collaborative endeavour. It requires a commitment from employers to remain adaptable and innovative, ensuring that job creation benefits the entire community. Equally, it demands that community voices, particularly those historically marginalised, are integral to shaping employment practices. By prioritising the needs and potential of those in underserved communities, and with employers wholeheartedly embracing their role as stewards of change, we're not merely filling jobs. We're nurturing the seeds of individual and community transformation. We're demonstrating that sustainable employment is a stepping stone to a world of possibilities, a world where everyone is given the chance to flourish. And guess what, as a business you can still be profitable AF.

HR as a field is known to use and abuse catchy terms , terms like Diversity and Inclusion are often thrown around since they are imperative to use in any organisation culture’s reference. This overuse of terms is rarely backed with substance, but luckily in my experience of last 10 years I have worked with two amazing organisations, both of which have valued diversity in their own way. These two organisations are as far apart as possible not just geographically (over 10,000kms away from each other) but in every dimension. One being India’s leading paint company Asian Paints and other being Sydney Trains ,Transport for NSW. On deep contemplation despite the huge differences in these organisations there are some key similarities that make them both a great employer and an amazing place to work, while the list is too long and very difficult to put in words , let me try and give it a go. Some key factors in why these organisations are industry and country leaders in inclusion charters are : 1) Leaders with genuine intent - both these organisations have leaders who walk the talk and not just say things that are good to hear. They encourage diversity in thoughts and are true flag bearers of the future. 2) Organisation’s commitment to change - Both these organisations stand for agility and they continuously strive to change course as needed, they embrace policy and procedure changes to keep pace with the world and make sure their ecosystem is aligned to serve their workforce which represents the society. 3) Human Resources is a Partnering function and not a support function- this I feel makes a lot of difference in the organisation’s trajectory since HR is not a back office function, the business seeks advice and then follows it to the T, the HR folks also do their due diligence and understand the business context before giving any advice. It is so refreshing to work for organisations who value diverse thoughts and perspectives, who give one the freedom to be who they are and who cherish you for you. In the week of Pride parade and the upcoming International Women’s Day, I wish more organisations follow suit and do more in this super important space. Till then cheers to these two organisations and many more who are doing the right thing. #diversityandinclusion #SydneyTrains #transportfornsw #asianpaints #womensday2024 #prideatwork Subhashis Sinha NS (Subba) Iyer Aashish Kshetry Jalaj Dani Annurag Batra Shomaice Zowghi Monica Radevski Jessica Schob

Inclusion is not just a buzzword; it's a commitment to creating an environment where everyone thrives. Neurodivergent individuals bring unique strengths and talents to the table. Their diligence, perspective, and innovation are invaluable. Does your company actively design interviews and workplaces with neurodiversity in mind?🧠 To quote Noorin Mizuyabu of KPMG in this article from Benefits Canada, "With a significant portion of employees identifying as neurodiverse, organizations that aren’t tapping into this talent pool could struggle to remain competitive." #Cowaninsurancegroup #Cowangroup #employeebenefits #benefitsphilosophy #worklifebalance #EmployeeWellness #SMEs #TalentAttraction #CanadianBusiness #EmployeeWellbeing #BenefitPlans #WorkplaceProductivity #WorkplaceCulture #QualityOfLife #MentalHealthAwareness https://lnkd.in/gmgKRZ3s
