🔳 Microsoft and Quantinuum Achieve Quantum Computing Milestone In a groundbreaking collaboration, Microsoft and Quantinuum have successfully created 12 highly reliable logical qubits using Azure Quantum’s qubit-virtualization system on Quantinuum’s H2 trapped-ion quantum computer. This achievement marks a significant step towards scientific quantum advantage, where hybrid quantum-classical supercomputers can solve complex problems beyond the reach of classical computers alone. 🔳 The teams demonstrated the potential of these logical qubits by accurately estimating the ground state energy of a catalytic intermediate, integrating AI models and cloud high-performance computing (HPC) in the process. This hybrid approach showcases the emerging capabilities of reliable quantum computing in practical applications, particularly in chemistry. 🔳 By expanding error-correction algorithms and optimizing them for Quantinuum’s H2 machine, which now boasts 56 qubits with 99.8% two-qubit fidelity, the teams have tripled the number of logical qubits from their previous record. However, Quantum technology also entails significant challenges and risks, such as cybersecurity, ethical, legal, and societal implications, as well as technical and operational hurdles. ✔Quantum technology is a cutting-edge and multidisciplinary field that harnesses the power of Quantum physics to bring our country endless novel and transformative applications in the fields of computing, communication and sensing. ✔The European Union and many member states already show the way.  Along with over 10 European countries, the EU has a clear and ambitious research and development strategy for Quantum technology. Our neighboring countries are already actively building and nurturing strong and vibrant ecosystems in this domain. The EU launched a Quantum technologies flagship program along with generous investments, aimed at supporting endeavors of Quantum researchers for a decade. ✔Belgium is a blind spot on the European Quantum map. Quantum technology is being pursued and developed across many Belgian universities and multiple research institutes. Also, some large corporations are exploring its possibilities and benefits. However, the Belgian startup scene is actually missing out on the opportunity of innovation that Quantum technology can bring. As a community, we identified more than 120 applicable Quantum-based use cases which already can be explored today.

🎉 Eviden is thrilled to announce that they’ve been awarded a contract by GENCI and CNRS - Centre national de la recherche scientifique to expand the #AI capacity of their #supercomputer, Jean Zay. 🚀 We’ll be deploying our state-of-the-art #BullSequana technology alongside 1,456 NVIDIA H100 GPUs to produce a momentous expansion in Jean Zay’s computing power, from 36.85 to 125.9 PFlops! At peak, this will represent a 3.5-fold increase in double precision (for high-performance computing) and a 13-fold increase if mixed or precision is used (as in the case of artificial intelligence). This upgrade – part of the #France2030 project – marks another significant step forward in Eviden’s mission to support cutting-edge research and development of AI sovereignty in France.
