1. Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI): Based in Ulsan, South Korea, it is one of the largest shipyards in the world. It specializes in building vessels like VLCC ships, crude oil tankers, container vessels, LNG carriers, oil and natural gas drilling ships, LPG carriers, VLGC ships and naval warships.
2. STX Offshore & Shipbuilding: This South Korean shipbuilding company has a broad global presence across Asia and some European countries. It specializes in LPG and LNG carriers, tankers, container vessels, FPSO vessels and drilling ships.
3. Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME): DSME is another South Korean shipbuilding company and is part of the "big three" of South Korean shipbuilding. It specializes in building icebreakers, LNG carriers, container vessels and submarines.
4. Samsung Heavy Industries: This South Korean company is known for building container ships, drillships, FPSO vessels and LNG carriers. It also built the world's largest ethane carrier in 2014 and the first 23,000 TEU container ship in 2017.
5. China Shipbuilding Group: Formed by the merger of China's two largest shipbuilding companies, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) and China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), it is the largest shipbuilding company in the world. It specializes in building and maintaining ships, including VLCC vessels, LNG carriers and military warships.
These shipyards are leaders in the global shipbuilding industry, known for their advanced technology, significant production capacities and ability to construct a wide variety of vessels for commercial, military and specialized uses.
