Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter developed and published by NetEase Games.
It’s a 6v6 hero shooter where players take control of a number of Marvel heroes and villains.
"Then we throw in some curveballs for the rest and dig deep to bring ancient characters back to the forefront," says executive producer Danny Koo.
NetEase's hero shooter is coming to PC and current-gen consoles this December, but Switch and mobile releases aren't yet part of the plan.
Coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, NetEase also confirms that all heroes will be free-to-play at launch and "beyond."
Marvel Rivals joins the growing list of games that have been confirmed for Gamescom Opening Night Live, which is scheduled for August 20.
"However, the expansive capabilities of Marvel’s characters provided us with abundant opportunities for exploration and utilization," the developer says.
Gwen Poole's singing pet is brand new to the hero shooter's roster, though his kit and abilities have yet to be detailed.
Penny Parker, Rocket Raccoon, Iron Man, Magick, Magneto, and Black Panther also team up to fight against an army of Doom-Bots.
NetEase Games' upcoming hero shooter seems to be generating quite a bit of excitement, if the player numbers for its ongoing closed beta are anything to go by.
The Strategist type hero will take to the battlefield with quantum magic, with his primary focus being on supporting allies.
Leap onto enemies, bind them with the symbiote's tendrils or dive underground and emerge with a massive bite as the Vanguard.
As a Duelist, Spider-Man closes in on opponents and pulls them close for combos. He's playable in the closed beta on July 23rd.
"We've heard that the audience has already suggested this several times, so we're looking into it," says game director Thad Sasser.
The upcoming 6v6 hero shooter, which was recently also announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, is getting a closed beta next month.
NetEase Games has also unveiled two new playable characters for the multiplayer game in the form of Venom and Adam Warlock.
According to the Marvel Rivals closed alpha contract, players weren't allowed to criticise the game or even make satirical content based on it.
The datamine indicates that there are a lot more playable characters in Marvel Rivals than the closed alpha announcement revealed.
Featuring a blend of futuristic and traditional Japanese environments, a giant multiversal rift in the sky, and more.
The hero shooter's closed alpha will feature 19 playable characters, including Hela, Spider-Man, Loki, Punisher, Iron Man, and more.
Heroes and villains battle in the map's stunning environments, while a background painting teases an alliance between Loki and Surtr.
Playable characters include Spider-Man, Hulk, Magneto, Iron Man and many more, with Team-Up Skills and destructible environments.
As per leaks, the game, titled Marvel Rivals, is a 6v6 hero shooter developed by NetEase, due out in 2025.
