"Are we creating enough of the right spaces for future creatives?" That’s the question posed to Trevor Morriss in this NLA podcast interview with Benjamin O'Connor on 'The Creative Arts and Architecture – A Shift Towards New Demand Patterns'. Trevor notes that culture increasingly has its place as an anchor tenant. These spaces not only attract people and foster engagement but are also essential for the economic viability of developments. Without them, many schemes simply wouldn’t happen. Projects like OlympiaUK exemplify this shift, with its redevelopment going far beyond the provision of exhibition spaces to revive the ambitions of the Victorian vision through a variety of educational and cultural facilities, in addition to new commercial opportunities. The conversation also tackles solutions to the housing crisis, stressing the need to move beyond box-ticking guidelines. We must adopt a more thoughtful approach - one that considers the unique character of each site, from neighbourhoods and thresholds to ground floors, ensuring we create truly meaningful places. We’re thrilled to see Greycoat Stores featured in Architecture Magazine (UK)! The edition focuses on lighting, making it the perfect showcase for a project where light plays a defining role. The reception lighting enhances the industrial aesthetic, while the striking double-height oval windows, with finely detailed bronze frames, flood the space with natural light from the first to fourth storeys. Above, circular windows on the fifth floor demarcate the transition to the new zinc and glass-roof extension on the sixth and seventh floors. As an all-electric building, Greycoat Stores maximises daylight to reduce energy consumption, seamlessly blending heritage, modernity, and sustainability. London studio SPPARC has overhauled a Grade II-listed Georgian townhouse in Fitzrovia to create a homely four-story office featuring a honeycomb-shaped roof: https://lnkd.in/g7j7v4wE

Trevor Morriss on our latest project to complete – Greycoat Stores: “This former warehouse has sat as a shadow of its former self for over six decades, with restoration works in the 1950s stripping it of its historic visual relationship to wider Westminster… Our sensitive, yet ambitious restoration will allow Greycoat Stores to stand as a focal point on this important Westminster junction once again.” Originally designed and built in the 1890s, find out more about our restoration of the former Army & Navy Cooperative Society warehouse in Building Design. here: https://lnkd.in/edm_deRN #SPPARC #spparchitecture

When architecture and innovation collide 💫 Our Fitzrovia office project has taken centre stage as the front cover of ADF - Architects' Datafile Magazine! The scheme is renowned for its pioneering honeycomb glulam roof - a bold statement in sustainable contemporary architecture. In the full feature, we share the story behind this remarkable structure and the wider refurbishment of the building - exploring how craftsmanship, creativity, and a commitment to sustainability came together to redefine workplace design. A huge thank you to ADF Magazine and James Parker for the article and to our incredible team for making the vision a reality! This year, I’m teaming up with my SPPARC colleagues David Mathewson Dominic Fanning & Thomas Taylor to grow some dubious moustaches for a great cause. We’re raising awareness (and funds) for men’s health - from mental health and suicide prevention to prostate and testicular cancer. We’d love your help! Donate, share, or just cheer us on as our moustaches (and awkward phases) grow. Every bit makes a difference! 👉 Please Donate here: https://lnkd.in/dTWysqKP #Movember #SPPARC #GrowForGood

This November, SPPARC is proud to participate in Movember. While the moustaches are questionable, they're growing for a purpose! It’s a fun way to raise money and spark vital conversations about issues such as testicular cancer and mental health. Whether you’re rocking a Mo or supporting from the sidelines, every contribution helps move the conversation around men’s physical and mental health forwards. Proud of our Amit Doshi, Dominic Fanning, David Mathewson and Tom Taylor for taking part! To support SPPARC's Movember efforts (and admire our wonderfully terrible moustaches), visit our fundraising page. All donations are greatly appreciated! 👉 https://lnkd.in/eR-nTvWb #SPPARC #spparchitecture #movember

A ‘First Look’ at Greycoat Stores in the Architects’ Journal! For years, the architectural character of the former Victorian warehouse was concealed by mid-20th century alterations. Our design approach was clear: celebrate the building's rich history while adapting it for modern needs. As Trevor Morriss explains: "Occupier experience was front and centre of our design philosophy. Double-height oval windows that stretch across the elevation introduce generous natural light into the workspaces and views out.” The transformation of the building delivers cutting-edge workplace, retail and restaurant space for our clients RE Capital and LaSalle Investment Management and has been assessed as BREEAM Excellent and WiredScore Platinum.
