About us
LEPL Spatial and Urban Development Agency (SUDA) is operating under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development (MOESD) of Georgia. It was created on June 11, 2022 with the main function to coordinate spatial and urban development policy of the country. The main pillars of SUDA’s work are the following: • Produce and implement the National Spatial Development Plan of Georgia. • Assist local municipalities to coordinate their land use master plans. • Harmonise current relevant legislation with the OECD best practices. • Increase awareness about the benefits and necessity of Spatial/Urban planning and its everlasting effect on climate change and sustainable development of the country. • Strengthen cooperation between state, academic and private agencies around spatial and urban planning.

🔹 Spatial and Urban Development Agency (SUDA) in collaboration with the United Kingdom will strengthen spatial planning standards and promote learning opportunities. The work tour in the UK was supported by the Department for Business and Trade. During the visit, Mr. Menabde, the head of the agency, discussed the cooperation prospects with the counterpart agencies Department for Business and Trade 🔹 Meetings were held with the representatives of the Scottish Government dedicated to the National Planning Framework and the National Spatial Strategy. Best possible means of sharing practices in the process of creating the national spatial development concept of Georgia was also pointed out during the discussions. 🔹 The representatives of the Royal Town Planning Institute of Scotland, The University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University representatives highlighted issues of professional partnership and spatial planning standards development. 🔹 The management team of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) presented the key products and services that contribute to organize competitions, enhance knowledge and improve professional skills. Parties outlined Future cooperation opportunities with the member organization agencies at the meeting held by RIBA. 🔹 The meetings with the representatives of the Scottish government, the Royal Town Planning Institute, the University of Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt University, RIBA and private sector involved in spatial/urban planning with the best international expertise were held to increase interest in Georgian market. 🔹 The Scottish Government - A Planning, Architecture and Regeneration Division - Following a restructuring within the Scottish Government, the Regeneration Unit merged with Planning and Architecture in April to form a new Planning, Architecture and Regeneration Division. The new division sits within a broader Local Government and Housing Directorate, which also includes the More Homes and Better Homes Divisions, as well as the Building Standards and Local Government teams. 🔹 Royal Town Planning Institute is the professional body representing planners in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It promotes and develops policy affecting planning and the built environment. Founded in 1914,[2] the institute was granted a royal charter in 1959. In 2018 it reported that it had over 25,000 members. 🔹 Edinburgh Futures Institute at the The University of Edinburgh is an interdisciplinary unit within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. 🔹 Heriot-Watt University is a public research university based in Edinburgh, Scotland. 🔹 Georgian National Urban Forum (GNUF) organized by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development (MOESD) and Spatial and Urban Development Agency (SUDA) supported by the UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) Settlements Programme was held on June 20-21, 2024. 🔹 The Georgian National Urban Forum aimed to open better means to achieve sustainable development goals, strengthen cooperation between specialists dealing with spatial and urban documentation, review challenges of natural environment, increase public awareness of spatial planning. 🔹 Panel sessions were focused on the spatial and urban development aspects. The declared actions of GNUF will be introduced at the World Urban Forum (WUF). 🔹 The first Georgian National Urban Forum involved local and international experts.
