Co-creating local solutions to the waste problems in Ghana
About us
In 2014, a group of young Ghanaian and German started an initiative called Recycle Up! Ghana to tackle the tremendous waste challenges in Ghana and the world through education and empowerment of the youth. The approach is based on a core set of beliefs that young people are the change-makers of the future and that local problems need to be solved by local residents. The goal of Recycle Up! Ghana is to train the youth to be able to identify societal challenges such as plastic waste and to develop local sustainable solutions that contribute to alleviating this problem.

𝙍𝙚𝙘𝙮𝙘𝙡𝙚 𝙐𝙥! 𝙂𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙖 𝙖𝙩 10!—𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙩. I want to use this opportunity to appreciate the role of Recycle Up! Ghana in my career as a conservationist. As a young boy in senior high school deciding on which career path to take, I was privileged to be selected as one of the first participants of the Recycle Up! Summer Camp in 2014. That summer camp really changed my perspective and made me interested in becoming an environmentalist. It was the summer camp that I learnt several skills, such as preparing a PowerPoint presentation, public speaking, and drafting a conservation project. The key memory I remember was my team (Team Spider, led by our mentor Kweku Ananse Manso) winning the first ever project pitch at the summer camp. I remember meeting the current executive director Abdul Rahim Shaibu-issah, founders Alhassan Baba Muniru, Torben Fischer, Manuel Schulze and Sampson Oboh. Fast forward: I met wonderful people who pushed and encouraged me, including Katrin Unger, Edmund Arthur Brown, Jude Asamoah, Salim Nuhu, Fatima Mohammed, among others. Recycle Up! Ghana also gave me my introduction into the digital marketing and communication space as the head of PR and media. Although I was new to the task, without much understanding, the support, especially from Bettina Huber was overwhelming. My colleague heads Samuela Mensah Aborampah, George Osei, ACMA, CGMA, CA(GH), Saviour Tepson Tepe and Julius-Jayson A. Botchway all contributed in one way or another. It has been 10 years of impact, and although I am not directly with you, I still appreciate the impact. Who else has been a beneficiary of Recycle Up! Ghana's impact?

Repurpose Before You Dispose! Instead of throwing things away, think of how you can give them a second life. Old jars make great storage containers or even plant pots! Get creative and help reduce waste. #WasteLessWednesday #SustainableLiving #EcoFriendlyTips #RecycleUpGhana
