Our annual summer internship programme offers Gibraltar students an opportunity to experience what it is like to work in Finance for a major accountancy firm. We introduced them to the many roles we offer and the great variety of tasks we undertake for our clients. We asked this impressive group of Digital Natives a few questions about their experience of the internship; their reasons for applying; their insights into the future role of AI and what it means to be a Digital Native. Below are some of their answers...

Past two weeks has seen Jack, Matthew and Owen carry out work experience with Jonathan Pennell at Argus using their Python skills and how it’s used within Argus Insurance by their data engineers. The job opportunities within the insurance sector in Gibraltar is a lot more technology and digitally oriented than most would expect. Having all successfully acquired their OpenEDG Python Institute certifications, next step was applying their skills in the workplace and how it’s used in one of Gibraltar’s biggest sectors. The week ended with them all being mock interviewed for the role at data engineer at the company so they could experience the type of skills and questions needed to be successful at interview. Massive gratitude to Jonathan and Argus Insurace for giving Academy students such a worthwhile and invaluable experience. As summer slowly slips away from us and our fantastic interns continue on to new pastures, they share a day in the life at the GFSC through their eyes 👀   Janelle Gallardo in the AML/CFT Team:   “The internship exceeded my expectations. I instantly felt welcomed with open arms into the team and the organisation as a whole, and everyone was willing to teach and guide me through my time there. Although my time there was just one month, I can confidently say I am leaving having gained invaluable knowledge and experience, and enhanced skills like communication, teamwork, and time management.”   Julian Vinales in the Prudential Banking Team:   “Interning at the GFSC has been an extremely valuable experience during which I’ve been able to gain industry specific knowledge and most importantly skills and perspectives that I will be taking onboard as I continue my professional development.”   Teagan Barret in the Conduct of Business Insurance Team:   “My summer internship with Gibraltar FSC was an incredible experience.
