The Cybertruck has some glaring problems aside from how ugly it looks. Elon Musk’s new toy has been out in the public for a little more than six months and it’s already getting its second physical recall, this time affecting more than 11,000 vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a recall for 11,688 Cybertruck dated June 19. What’s at fault is the truck’s windshield wiper motor as it “may stop functioning due to electrical overstress to the gate driver component.” The recall includes all Cybertrucks made from Nov. 13, 2023, to June 6, 2024, which is practically all of them.
The Cybertruck’s windshield wiper is, like the rest of the truck, different than what you’d find in most vehicles. Instead of two wipers, it uses one giant windshield wiper so it can be dangerous if that one motor stops working.
Telsa didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment about the recall.
Cybertruck owners will be officially notified about the recall starting on Aug. 18. Tesla will replace the windshield wiper motors at no cost to the owners.
Back in April, the Cybertruck had its first recall. A few owners noticed that the pad on the accelerator would slide off and could wedge itself at an angle to where it kept the car accelerating.
Last week, Cybertruck owners were posting about other issues with the truck’s big windshield wiper. Some noticed that the wiper just wouldn’t stay down while others say it would activate on its own.
Since its release, the Cybertruck has had a litany of bizarre issues. One stopped working after it went through a car wash, another was told by Telsa that coolant leaks aren’t covered by the warranty, and there’s also the little thing of the Cybertruck’s doors and trunk injuring people.
