Severance Reveals Its Return Date and a Tantalizing First Clip

Crank up the defiant jazz: season 2 of the Apple TV+ sci-fi mystery series starring Adam Scott, Britt Lower, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette arrives early in 2025.

Severance fans have been dangling on that agonizing cliffhanger since April 2022, and there’s a bit more of a wait to go until season two—but at least we know exactly when it’s coming. Apple TV+ has just announced that its quirky, Emmy-winning sci-fi thriller will return Friday, January 17, 2025, and shared some appropriately mysterious footage from the new season.

Severance is set in and around the corporate offices of the secretive Lumon Industries; we still don’t know exactly what the company’s actual function is, but it’s unusual enough that it requires most employees to undergo a surgical procedure that divides their minds between work and home, with no memories or awareness overlapping between the two. In the season one finale, Mark (Adam Scott) and a few of his colleagues managed to override the procedure, resulting in their “innies” (their work selves) getting to experience consciousness as their “outies” (their personal selves), with some shocking reveals to go along with that. Here’s all that Apple TV+ tells us about season two:”Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.”

The streamer also dropped this very brief tease to go with the season two date reveal; it includes intriguing peeks at familiar faces and places as well as a new character played by Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones, The Sandman, Wednesday).

“You should have left!”

Season two—once again executive produced by Ben Stiller (who directs five of the 10 episodes), and created, written, and executive produced by Dan Erickson—will have a weekly drop of 10 episodes. The returning cast includes Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette; Sarah Bock is a new series regular, with other new cast members (announced last year via Deadline) to include Christie, Bob Balaban, Merritt Wever, Alia Shawkat, Robby Benson, Stefano Carannante, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, and John Noble.

With season two still half a year away, there’s plenty of time to catch up or revisit Severance season one, which is streaming on Apple TV+.
