There’s a big difference between over-ear headphones and on-ear headphones. Sure, studio-oriented cans like the Sennheiser HD 280, Audio-Technica ATH-M50, or the Sony MDR-V6 produce lovely sound, but they’re not the best option for traipsing around the city. That’s because they’re huge, heavy, and usually come with long, tangle-prone cords. To take them anywhere, you have to bring a bag along.

That’s where the AKG K 430 comes in. AKG is a legendary Austrian audio company that makes high-end cans that aurally hang with the big boys, but this model is designed for a completely different purpose. These are portable (or “subway”) headphones, so you can leave your hardcore cans by your stereo, and take these (and decent audio) along with you. Since you’re going to be taking these on the go, there’s an iPhone-compatible remote.
The street price on this headset is usually $80 (I paid $75 for this model’s predecessor five years ago) but today both Musician’s Friend and a third-party Amazon seller is offering them for $30 shipped. In fact, the white version of these headphones is still selling for $80 on Amazon. If you’re such an audio nerd you need two pairs of nice headphones, $30 is an excellent price for your complimentary headset. [Amazon | Musician’s Friend]

If you think the purest form is unadorned function, you should consider making the Casio F-91W your timepiece. This is a notable wristwatch! It’s been around since 1991, it has its own Wikipedia page, and for a while owning one could get you sent to Guantanamo in the right circumstances. Oh, and it tells time. Quite well, actually. Eight bucks and change today—buying one from a store like Kmart would run you around $20 and usually Amazon charges $12. [Amazon]

Today there’s a good sale on a basic burr grinder. If you know coffee snobs, you know that people can argue about the benefits of one burr grinder over another for hours. This Capresso isn’t a particularly distinguished coffee grinder—some forum folks say it’s not great for espresso—but it is an electric burr grinder for under $70. It will make your beans into uniform smaller pieces. [Amazon]

Today’s your last chance to get in on Amazon’s basics sale. The code BASICSLE knocks $20 off $100 and $10 off $50. What makes this sale notable is that it covers something that literally every person needs—underwear. But if you’re all set on the tighty-whitey front, you find Levi’s jeans, white Oxford-cloth button downs, and absurd American flag socks. [Amazon]
