This Awesome AT-AT Walker Belongs to an Even More Awesome Four Year Old

Star Wars makes us all better, happier people. Proof: Stephanie Kaloi’s four-year-old son just underwent surgery on both of his legs so he needed a walker and knee immobilizers to walk. The problem was that her son had previously associated the walker with pain, so he was never happy using it. But after it was outfitted as an AT-AT walker? He now walks around happily making laser noises. It’s wonderful.

Inspired by a friend to transform the ol’ stodgy intimidating walker into an AT-AT walker, the artwork was done for Kaloi by comic artist Ben Dewey. It looks fantastic and even comes with Darth Vader illustrations on the console:

Kaloi said:

Dude loves being able to call Darth Vader (his favorite character) for instructions, and has mastered the sound of a laser being fired. More importantly, the goal was accomplished: our son happily walked all around our living room firing lasers at us for nearly an hour without once being scared that the walker would cause him pain. He’ll need the walker for another three weeks, and having him happy to use it is a huge leap forward for his recovery.

Star Wars, one of the best things the world has come up with. After children, of course. [Offbeat Families via Laughing Squid]
