Apparently Star Wars: Episode VII was not Disney’s idea. According to his son Jett, George Lucas was outlining future installments to the Star Wars saga a full year before Lucasfilm was sold to Disney — and Jett had more sequel secrets to reveal, too.
Jett talked a lot about his father’s involvement with the sequels in an interview with Flicks and the City, including these very interesting points:
• Lucas has created “guidelines” for the sequels
• Lucas is “constantly” in contact with director J.J. Abrams about the sequels
• Jett has seen the script for Episode VII and he’s ” happy with what’s going to happen.”
I’m counting all of this as good news. I have no problems with George Lucas being involved in new Star Wars movies, I just don’t want him writing the screenplays or directing them. And I don’t know about Jett’s taste in sci-fantasy movies, but he lived through the shitstorm his father went through after the prequels — if he’s “happy” about the plot of Episode VII, I’d venture he figures its not going to cause another nerd-splosion. Ot maybe it actually sucks and he doesn’t care because he figures J.J. Abrams will be taking all the heat. We’ll see in 2015!
