Pioneering Sustainability | Bold Architecture | Seamlessly Integrated Design | Respecting Tradition Horizon House Built on a slope overlooking the Aegean, Horizon House weaves a dialogue between nature and human intervention. The building "sinks" into the ground, following the natural contour of the terrain, while the stone facades and the earthy volumes evoke the sense of a geological formation rising from the earth. The linear synthesis of the house echoes the lines of the horizon, reinforcing its strong connection with the surrounding landscape. The northern facade harmonizes with the ground, offering a sense of protection, while the southern side opens towards the horizon, embodying freedom. As a defining feature of the design, the "L"-shaped pool acts as a connecting element between the building and its surroundings. Inside, simple geometries and natural textures create a canvas of tranquility. The cross-ventilated design allows air and light to flow freely, transforming the interiors into naturally cool havens during the summer months. Pioneering Sustainability The Horizon House incorporates innovative sustainable design principles across every aspect of its construction. Key features include: Energy Efficient Design: The home’s shell minimizes thermal bridging and complies nZEB standards ensuring year-round comfort with minimal energy use. High-performance insulation and triple-glazed, low-emissivity windows enhance thermal efficiency. Renewable Energy Generation: Five micro wind turbines producing up to 12.5 kWh daily, the turbines supply 30–50% of the home’s energy needs. Geothermal Heating and Cooling: Harnessing the earth’s thermal energy, a small-scale geothermal system regulates interior temperatures efficiently. Blue Roof System: The 500-square-meter roof combines rainwater collection with a planted surface, creating a microclimate that improves insulation while collecting up to 200 cubic meters of water annually. Water Recycling: Advanced systems for greywater and blackwater recycling reduce water consumption. Greywater is reused for irrigation, while blackwater undergoes natural filtration before disposal. Drought-Resistant Landscaping: Indigenous, drought-tolerant plants ensure the landscape respects local ecology and reduces irrigation demands. Material Reuse: Excavated stone was repurposed for masonry, while reclaimed wood forms shading elements and interior details. Like a geological formation discreetly emerging from the landscape, a space for those seeking peace and connection with the natural environment. A project that balances matter and light, where the earth, sea, and sky compose a scene of harmony.
