About us
The Maharshi Dayananda Gurukula, MDG, is a 20,000 square feet private residential Vedic school situated 100 feet from the Atlantic coastline of tropical Guyana, South America. This campus is satellite to its New York, USA MDG headquarter institute that has been a beacon for the community for the last 30 years. Side by side, and in accordance with Dharmic principles, MDG is committed to meeting the modern day need of commingling age-old spiritual learning with the age-old need for employment-based education from Grades 7 through 12. MDG is led by a Superintending Acharya and is overseen by a school board made up of educators and social workers. The current Acharya is Dr. Satish Prakash, a Sanskrit alumnus of Gurukula Kangri University and former Assistant Principal of Paul Robeson High School, New York City. Alongside Dr. Prakash, MDG is served by a Deputy Acharya, Dr. Surendra Kumar, alumnus of Gurukula Kangri University and professor of Indian Philosophy at Maharshi Dayananda University, Rohtak, India. For MDG administrative and governance purposes, MDG is organized into two geographically based regions, North America and South America. In addition, the institution engages in robust online programs of weekly Havan and Vedic lectures that reach a global audience from the Americas to the South Pacific. MDG is established to restore and maintain the Dharmic heritage of the Indian Diaspora in the Americas and through its online programs it is reaching the world. Since 1837, the plantation economy of the new world extracted laborers from India among other countries. The colonial education system regularized English, French and Dutch based education in the colonies and as such the Indian Diaspora, like other Diasporas, is being faced with the threat of cancellation of Dharmic based culture in Guyana, Suriname West Indies, Fiji, Mauritius and South Africa. MDG’s mission is to upkeep the Arya/Hindu traditions in the Americas.

𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 – 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚: Action is a conscious effort with a definite purpose in life. The intent behind Action should be to merge the purpose of the Individual Soul with Cosmic Purpose. Selfless actions liberate, and selfish actions bind. The Path to True Freedom lies not in abstaining from Action, but in converting our intention. Our Actions must be compatible with Wisdom and must be complemented by Logical Thinking. 𝐊𝐫𝐢𝐲𝐚-𝐦𝐚𝐚𝐧𝐚: These are actions that a person is currently performing of his own free will. These actions are not influenced by compulsions of any past Karma. They have not yet sprouted in preparation for bearing fruits. They are like new seeds ready to be stored in the causal body. 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐚: These are actions that are already performed and stored in one’s casual body. They are reserved for fructification in some future circumstance- either in this life or a subsequent life. 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐚’𝐫𝐚𝐛-𝐝𝐡𝐚: These are actions that either have already started bearing fruits or are awaiting favorable circumstances to sprout any moment soon. They serve in large measure to shape a person’s mental and physical development and to determine his life experience-traits, likes, and dislikes. Dr. Satish, Eesha Upanishad,

🌟 RISHI DAYANANDA AND MODERNISM 🌟 Rishi Dayananda, a visionary reformer of his time, shook the foundations of traditional Hindu practices with his call to "Back to the Vedas." His advocacy wasn't about nostalgia for a bygone era but a radical push for change in outdated customs and modes of thinking. He championed reason, debate, and universal wisdom from the Vedas, which are relevant for all humanity across times and places. In his era, Brahmin priests wielded significant influence, dictating everything from birth rituals to travel restrictions. Dayananda challenged these practices, advocating for freedom from antiquated beliefs and encouraging a modern outlook. His relentless efforts paved the way for a more inclusive and progressive society, where individuals could critically evaluate the past and shape a better future. Today, Rishi Dayananda's legacy reminds us to question tradition, embrace reason, and apply timeless wisdom to navigate the complexities of the modern world. Let's celebrate his vision of a society where knowledge, equality, and freedom prevail. #RishiDayananda #VedicWisdom #ModernThinking #ProgressiveIndia #MDG #collegeofvedicstudies #guyanagurukula
