Lessening Human Suffering - Educating Human Minds

About us

The Maharshi Dayananda Gurukula, MDG, is a 20,000 square feet private residential Vedic school situated 100 feet from the Atlantic coastline of tropical Guyana, South America. This campus is satellite to its New York, USA MDG headquarter institute that has been a beacon for the community for the last 30 years. Side by side, and in accordance with Dharmic principles, MDG is committed to meeting the modern day need of commingling age-old spiritual learning with the age-old need for employment-based education from Grades 7 through 12. MDG is led by a Superintending Acharya and is overseen by a school board made up of educators and social workers. The current Acharya is Dr. Satish Prakash, a Sanskrit alumnus of Gurukula Kangri University and former Assistant Principal of Paul Robeson High School, New York City. Alongside Dr. Prakash, MDG is served by a Deputy Acharya, Dr. Surendra Kumar, alumnus of Gurukula Kangri University and professor of Indian Philosophy at Maharshi Dayananda University, Rohtak, India. For MDG administrative and governance purposes, MDG is organized into two geographically based regions, North America and South America. In addition, the institution engages in robust online programs of weekly Havan and Vedic lectures that reach a global audience from the Americas to the South Pacific. MDG is established to restore and maintain the Dharmic heritage of the Indian Diaspora in the Americas and through its online programs it is reaching the world. Since 1837, the plantation economy of the new world extracted laborers from India among other countries. The colonial education system regularized English, French and Dutch based education in the colonies and as such the Indian Diaspora, like other Diasporas, is being faced with the threat of cancellation of Dharmic based culture in Guyana, Suriname West Indies, Fiji, Mauritius and South Africa. MDG’s mission is to upkeep the Arya/Hindu traditions in the Americas.

  • 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐎𝐟 𝐈𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 Ignorance presents itself in the following four major forms: 👉The first Form of Ignorance is the groundless belief that the perishable world, including the human body, is imperishable, the things of the world that we see, feel and hear have existed forever and will last forever, and gods and Yogis retain their physical bodies forever through the Power of Yoga. 👉The second Form of Ignorance is the false belief that lustfulness for pleasures of the body is pure joy, even though, in actuality, it is impure pleasure, and untruthfulness, stealing and other vices are pure, acceptable actions, even though, in actuality, they are unacceptable actions. 👉The third Form of Ignorance is the false belief that excessive indulgence in sensual gratification causes joy, even though, in actuality, it causes pain and anguish. 👉The fourth Form of Ignorance is the false belief that things made of Matter are spiritual in nature, i.e., they are possessed of Soul, even though, in actuality, they are material, not possessed of Soul. The foregoing are the four Forms of Ignorance. The reverse of all of this is Knowledge.🙏 #knowledge #learning #ignorance #MDG #guyanagurukula #collegeofvedicstudies www.guyanagurukula.com

  • 🌸 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐡𝐚𝐧! 🌸 Raksha Bandhan, also known as Rakhi, is a beautiful festival celebrating the bond of love and protection between brothers and sisters. This special day falls on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Shravana (July-August).🥰 On Raksha Bandhan, sisters tie a sacred thread (Rakhi) around their brothers' wrists, symbolizing their love and prayers for their brothers' well-being. In return, brothers vow to protect their sisters and often give them gifts as a token of their affection. • 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐮'𝐬 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 In Manu’s view, women are the cornerstone of the home and family. A wife represents the essence of the home, embodying more than just its physical structure. To safeguard women from life's challenges, Manu advises that a young girl should remain under her father's care, a bride under her husband's, and a widow under her grown children's protection. Manu emphasizes that women are adept managers of household affairs, likening their presence to that of the goddess of fortune. Families thrive when women are respected and happy, as their presence is believed to attract blessings. Disrespecting women leads to sorrow and ineffectiveness within the family. The relationship between husband and wife is viewed as a spiritual union essential for enduring prosperity and fulfillment. #MDG #guyanagurukula #collegeofvedicstudies #womens #ideology #home #family www.guyanagurukula.com

  • 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐤𝐚𝐚𝐫? In the Manu Smṛiti, Dharma's purpose is to elevate humanity from basic existence to higher levels. Sanskaar, a key aspect of Dharma, refines the body and mind much like grammar refines language. This process is likened to transforming raw gold into a polished gem, bringing forth the divine personality within. One significant Sanskaar is the Sacred Thread (Yajñopaveet, Janeo), marking children’s transition from childhood to student life, where they learn and follow strict disciplines. This rite is essential in shaping their future as responsible individuals. After the student stage, the householder stage (Gṛihastha) is highly praised for its role in maintaining society through family life, mutual support, and fulfilling social duties. Marriage, or Vivaha Sanskaar, is crucial for ensuring compatibility and purity in the family line, elevating the union to a divine partnership. Manu Smṛiti also emphasizes the householder's virtues: simplicity, compassion, and generosity, ensuring family and societal harmony. Misguided choices in marriage, neglect of family duties, and promiscuity lead to family ruin, highlighting the importance of responsible living. #learn #MDG #guyanagurukula #collegeofvedicstudies #sanskaar #manusmriti

This spiritual science frees us from agony and death, surpassing other sciences like natural, social, economic, and environmental. Manu acknowledges that while people pursue various physical aspirations, the highest goal is everlasting beatitude (Mukti). Achieving this requires aligning lesser goals with this ultimate aim, harmonizing one's current life with future lives. The Manu Smṛiti outlines the soul's journey through many lives, ultimately achieving self-realization. It stands as both a crucial law book and a complete philosophy of life, ranking highest among similar works by later Rishis. www.guyanagurukula.com
