About us

The Hong Kong Green Building Council Limited (HKGBC) is a non-profit, member led organisation established in 2009 which strives to promote the standards and developments of sustainable buildings in Hong Kong. The HKGBC aims to raise green building awareness by engaging the public, the industry and the government, and to develop practical solutions for Hong Kong’s unique, subtropical built environment of high-rise, high density urban area, leading Hong Kong to become a world’s exemplar of green building development. Our passion for a sustainable built environment is the motivating force to achieve our goals. The wide experience and deep insight of our members and experts is the underlying foundation for real results. Our Vision To help save the planet and improve the wellbeing of the people of Hong Kong by transforming the city into a greener built environment.   • [Member’s News - Swire Properties’ Green Kitchen Initiative Capacity Building Workshop] Launched in 2017, Swire Properties’ Green Kitchen Initiative facilitates sustainability conversations between portfolio management teams and F&B tenants. This Programme encourages collaboration to reduce energy and water usage, as well as improve air quality and waste management. Recently, Swire Properties took a step forward by partnering with Future Green, a F&B sustainability consultancy, to curate two full-day capacity building workshops. The workshops aim to foster best practices and facilitate knowledge sharing about sustainable practices in the F&B sector. The workshop attracted over 60 participants from 11 F&B groups, government agencies, and industry practitioners. Through engaging games and activities, participants gained valuable insights into Swire Properties’ Green Kitchen Initiative framework, which includes fit-out guidelines and strategies for integrating sustainability considerations into F&B outlet’s operations. F&B tenants had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with industry experts on a variety of topics, including sustainability management, energy and water efficiency, waste reduction and recycling, sustainable packaging and sustainable procurement. #HKGBC #SwireProps #SD2030 #SustainabilityWeAllCount #ForOurFuture

  • [HKGBC Delegation to Germany (14-18 Oct 2024) – A Green Voyage to the Heart of Germany's #GreenBuilding Movement! ✨]   #HKGBC recently led a 5-day #Delegation to #Berlin and #Hamburg, #Germany, comprising 29 professionals, including HKGBC Directors, Members and Government Representatives. A special thanks to the DGNB German Sustainable Building Council for the invaluable support in coordinating the visits, making this trip a resounding success.   • [#HKGBC CPD Event – Guided Tour to Quiet-Renovation Laboratory] The Council has partnered with GHM Greater Bay Area Institute of Urban Architecture (Hong Kong) (GBIUA) to organise a CPD event for green building practitioners at the Quiet-Renovation Laboratory on 28 September. Kicking off with Welcoming Remarks from Mr Ng Anthony, the Founding President of GBIUA, and Mr Ching Antonio, the President of GBIUA, this event offered a platform for the practitioners to learn the latest technologies and solutions, gaining practical experience in using the tools and promoting “Eco-Renovation”. The Quiet-Renovation Laboratory is initiated by the “Pilot Scheme for Reducing Environmental Nuisance during Renovation Works in the Community”, funded by the Environment and Conservation Fund. The Laboratory showcases low-nuisance renovation tools and addresses legal aspects of the Noise Control Ordinance. #HKGBC is dedicated to providing the industry with continuous learning opportunities. The Council welcomes the initiatives proposed in the Chief Executive's 2024 Policy Address, particularly those aimed at driving green and low-carbon transformation, as well as promoting green building development: 1.     Enhance the Green Finance Ecosystem 2.     Facilitate R&D and Application of Construction Technologies 3.     Advocate Elderly-friendly Building Design As of October this year, there have been over 2,600 registered projects under the #BEAMPlus, involving more than 8,400 buildings and covering over 87.6 million square meters. The BEAM Plus Existing Buildings (EB) #GlobalVersion V1.0 was introduced in June, and the BEAM Plus New Buildings (NB) Global Version is in progress. The HKGBC has been actively working with various sectors to expand the use of green building rating tools in the Mainland and beyond.   • [🍀 HKGBC Participates in an Exclusive Biodiversity Tour at Taikoo Place] The #HKGBC was privileged to be invited by the HKGBC’s Platinum Patron Member, Swire Properties Limited, to join an inspiring biodiversity tour on 2 Oct 2024 at Taikoo Place – a showcase of its work in transformational placemaking, exemplifying vibrant and sustainable communities. 💚🌳 The redevelopment project of Taikoo Place has added 70,000 sq ft of open green space namely Taikoo Square and Taikoo Garden. It is a remarkable project that integrates biodiversity considerations with biophilic design planning. The exclusive guided biodiversity tour at Taikoo Square, joined by #HKGBC Chairman, Dr CHEUNG Tin-cheung, SBS,  along with Executive Director, Ir Harry Lai, BBS, and several HKGBC Directors, was enjoyable and interactive, illustrating how this new oasis promotes urban biodiversity and positively impacts the business environment. The tour also unveiled the master plan of Taikoo Place, demonstrating how it benefits both the working population and the neighbouring communities. With over 260 native and exotic plant species inspired by local feng shui woodlands, this project enhances the ecological connectivity, habitat diversity, and movement of wildlife in the community. Reduction of ecological impact and enhancement of biodiversity have been incorporated as an assessment criteria in the #BEAMPlus certification. The HKGBC is delighted to see Swire Properties setting new benchmark for sustainably planned commercial hubs in the city.
