This October, we are proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a cause that touches the lives of our guests, colleagues, and their families. Across Langham Hospitality Group, we host impactful initiatives worldwide each year to raise awareness. Today, we would like to share some of those meaningful actions taking place in the US and beyond. In Chicago, we partnered with Lululemon to create a special evening of relaxation at our Chuan Spa for breast cancer survivors and caregivers. The event featured spa treatments, refreshments, and a peaceful space for attendees to unwind and connect. Led by Kayla Jeter, a Lululemon ambassador and caregiver, the evening was a chance for those affected by breast cancer to take a well-deserved moment of self-care. Meanwhile, in Boston, proceeds from our signature strawberry shortcake benefit the Ellie Fund, which provides practical support to breast cancer patients. Guests in New York could contribute to breast cancer research when booking their stays. Meanwhile, in Pasadena, 10% of the proceeds from special room rates and wellness events at our Chuan Spa will support City of Hope’s Women’s Cancer Programmes. As part of our global commitment, Cordis, Auckland, hosted a “Pink Drinks” fundraiser at Our Land bar, with proceeds benefiting the Breast Cancer Foundation New Zealand. This is just one example of how we’re working worldwide to support breast cancer awareness and research. #LHGLife #BreastCancerAwareness #ConnectFromTheHeart

Langham Hospitality Group are immensely proud of the opportunities and support we offer to new colleagues, providing them with the training and skills they need to excel in their careers. This warm welcome was experienced firsthand by three international hospitality students who embarked on a new journey as interns at Cordis, Auckland. Natasha Batmalo and Afiqah Effendy were studying for their Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Business in Singapore, and chose Cordis for their all-important internship due to its stellar reputation and the opportunities it offers for professional growth. For Afiqah, meeting people from all over the world was a highlight, while Natasha most valued the smooth onboarding programme and the support she received from her new colleagues. Sophia Kim, meanwhile, joined Cordis, Auckland as part of the Korean Government’s Overseas Employment Programme. After a year spent learning the ropes as a Food & Beverage Attendant at Eight Restaurant, she transferred to The Langham, Melbourne to take on the same role at the Aria Bar & Lounge. “Leaving Korea was a brave decision, but it allowed me to grow and meet so many wonderful people,” she shared. “This experience has made my life better in ways I never imagined!” Together, Natasha, Afiqah and Sophia embody the spirit of exploration and personal growth that defines Cordis, Auckland’s dedication to delivering heartfelt service. Their stories also inspire others to step out of their comfort zones and pursue their dreams. #LHGLife

From the military to the kitchen, Executive Sous Chef Sean McCray’s journey at The Langham, New York, Fifth Avenue is nothing short of inspiring. Joining the hotel as a line cook in 2013, Sean brought his discipline and teamwork from his days as a tank crew member in the military to the culinary team. Sean credits much of his growth to his first supervisor at the hotel, who inspired him and his teammate to be their best. With determination and his love for food, Sean quickly found his rhythm in the culinary world. The early support from his supervisor and his teammates sparked his drive and helped him to rise through the ranks at The Langham. As Sean’s career grew, navigating the transition from a peer to a leader was challenging, especially during the pandemic. Sean embraced every challenge with the same energy he brought to his cooking – the intense passion that he felt when he first stepped foot in the kitchen. When Sean reflects on these challenges, he is confident he can take on anything ahead as he has made it through those moments. “The camaraderie among the staff here is like something I have not experienced since I was in the military. The gratitude from colleagues is my personal highlight working at The Langham,” Sean shared. #LHGLife #OneTeamOneDream #BetterEveryday

Introducing Kamrun Naher, the Assistant Maintenance Manager at The Langham, Sydney who embodies the can-do spirit. From handling major repairs to ensuring everything mechanical runs smoothly, she is behind every fix at The Langham, Sydney. Kamrun’s personal journey to this position is equally impressive. With hard work and support from her team, she excelled and was quickly promoted in just a year. Yuk Ping, who just celebrated 30 years of service, is a shining example of how Eaton Workshop encourages individuals to demonstrate their authentic selves at work. We are proud to celebrate Chan Yuk Ping’s Long Service Award as a valued member of Eaton HK’s stewarding team. Yuk Ping’s journey embraces her unique communication style as she uses sign language to connect with others. Yuk Ping’s dedication extends far beyond her role. She proactively participates in team activities and volunteers to help others. Yuk Ping also recently formed a strong bond with a new team member with a hearing impairment. Communicating through sign language, they shared experiences and meals together, and cultivated a unique understanding with each other that enriches Eaton’s workplace culture. This connection not only highlights the importance of inclusivity but also inspires curiosity among the rest of the Eaton team. As part of the hotel’s commitment to inclusivity, they have organized special sign language orientations and training sessions for team members to facilitate communication and deepen their understanding of people with disabilities. Langham Hospitality Group are grateful for all she brings to our community, and we will continue to foster a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and empowered. On World Tourism Day, we echo António Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General’s view that tourism brings people together with a message that hospitality and travel can advance peace. Langham Hospitality Group, each of our brands, The Langham, Cordis and Eaton are engaged at multiple levels of action that play a role in their communities. We execute missions which foster inclusion and diversity amongst our colleagues and guests, preserve our cultural and natural heritage through repurposing historic buildings or local clean up initiatives and develop programmes with social impact. We believe sustainable tourism can transform communities in which we operate. Let’s pause for thought on each of our roles, as a guest or an industry colleague, in harnessing the power of travel to promote mutual respect and understanding. #WorldTourismDay #WTD2024 #TakeCareOfTheWorldAroundUs
