AFTER THE FLAGS Inspired by the iconic works of Indonesian artist Arahmaiani, Kathleen Malay's latest visual poem is a love letter to the power of art and community in an era of crises. The new art film, commissioned by Potato Head Films, features evocative vignettes celebrating the resilience of diverse communities and cultural wisdom. AFTER THE FLAGS is a tribute to Arahmaiani Feisal, a leading Indonesian artist and activist, and takes its cue from her career spanning ‘Flag Project’, which first united communities in Yogyakarta after the 2006 earthquake. Arahmaiani’s flags, created with local communities and bearing words in native Jawi script, symbolise harmony, social and environmental values. This project has since been replicated globally to facilitate an intercultural dialogue. The film includes new editions of these flags, made from upcycled materials during Arahmaiani's residency at Potato Head. The film portrays the duality of human and nature, and our efforts towards coexistence through powerful symbolism and soundscapes. See the full film: NOWNESS ASIA - https://lnkd.in/gn6EkCFs
