Thank you to Community Business for this recognition to Resolve Foundation for the category of Creating Social Impact in Asia: Specific Initiative Award for our signature fellowship program, which is now supported over 100 community leaders over six years, 4 of 5 of whom say they would not have achieved what they have without this program. I want to give an appreciation to all the finalists tonight for the good work collectively being done. I also want to share my one-minute speech here, which focused on our amazing DONORS over the years and trust-based approaches. "We are grateful for this recognition, and for this group of like minded individuals gathered in this room. We also want to give a thank you in particular to our fellow finalists for this award, for everything you do. If these awards did not exist, it would, on one hand, be a good thing, because that would mean that we have achieved true inclusion in this region, where everyone feels they belong. But clearly, we are not there. In Hong Kong, where we operate, a recent survey by the Equal Opportunities Commission showed that one in eight Hong Kongers had experienced discrimination or harassment in the past twelve months. Now, if these awards did not exist, it would, on the other hand, be an unfortunate thing, because those of us dedicated to the cause of diversity and inclusion often question, are we making a difference? This is a great validation, not just for us in our team, but the grassroots community changemakers we support. There are so many people to thank, but I want to give special attention to the donors who believed in this project and gave us flexible, multi-year funding to focus on testing, iterating and improving our program. You knew that not all impact can be planned, and indeed some of the most transformative impact is unexpected, and comes down to commitment, learning, and relationships. I am sure this initiative will continue to spread and change more people 😍 The host Ng Yu Fung is a seasoned social worker of hospice (aka end-of-life) services. Not only did he share his experience with clients at their last scene in life, he also found a society 香港寧養社工學會 to promote more public attention on early planning to a series of decisions before it’s too late 🩶🖤 He is so kind to give out the self-created cards to us for further use 🙏🏻🥰 My key takeaways are: - The elders are not embarrassed to discuss while their children are‼️ - Nasal tube for feeding is definitely affecting the patient’s dignity and comfort. The unnecessary restraints for bed often caused by this struggle - The use of antibiotics decision was also included one of the seven life-saving medical treatments. We often overlooked that this may continue the suffering of ‘treated👉🏻pneumonia again👉🏻treated’ loop - It’s best to keep the signed DNACPR (唔磋心指示） inside the refrigerator 😂 coz the rescued team only looks for the hard copy (not photo nor soft copy) Phew… the terms are so technical and I do hope everyone should spend time and be serious just like we subimt our tax return 🥲🧠 #EndOfLifeAwareness #socialimpact #HospiceCare #ElderCare #AdvanceCarePlanning #DignityInCare #HealthcareAdvocacy #ElderlyEmpowerment

Yes, this marks my 4th year participating in Hong Kong ADHD Awareness Week. Each year features a distinct theme. The core message remains consistent - you are not alone! 🧠 What's so great is to have Unlocking ADHD - Empowering ADHDers and their families to live life to the fullest as the co-organiser with Let's Talk ADHD for Awareness Week. It's truly wonderful to have a photo taken with Ali Lee! The beauty of Awareness Week lies in framing ADHD from a life-span perspective. From education to employment, family dynamics to health management, ADHD showcases both strengths and challenges for individuals with ADHD, their loved ones, and those around them. Through webinars and on-site events led by individuals with ADHD and their allies, I believe we can develop a more comprehensive understanding of ADHD, appreciate the strengths of those with ADHD, and discover ways for them to lead fulfilling and productive lives. Equally fantastic is the broad spectrum of supporters for Awareness Week. This includes NeuroDiversity Association Hong Kong, Teach For Hong Kong, Neurodiversity Hong Kong and Theo Wong. They are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment for neurodivergent communities, from promoting the concept of neurodiversity to establishing a network of educators who are adept at supporting neurodivergent learners. Alongside Generation Hong Kong, SENsational Foundation, and Community Business, these organizations serve as the pillars of neurodiversity advocacy in our community. What brings me immense joy is that three organizations I am affiliated with—Talos Foundation, Dream Impact / ESG Innovation Lab, and Resolve Foundation—are all supporting partners of Awareness Week. Their backing bolsters the credibility of Awareness Week as one of the most impactful events promoting ADHD awareness in Hong Kong. Worth mentioning is the support from EnviroEvents (Rethink) Ltd - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a worthy cause and closely linked with sound Environmental, Social and Governance policies. Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to Janice Fung and her team at Prologue Communications for their dedicated efforts in amplifying ADHD awareness through media channels. Sometimes, it took awhile before you realised someone is your muse many years ago and still being so in current days. Once upon a time, there was a bookshop called 阿麥書房 and that’s my favourite bookshop at those days. The owner of 阿麥書房, James, is now my mentor at this year’s fellowship by Resolve Foundation. 🌟 We’re thrilled to share that this year, our Roller Sharon Tang has joined the Resolve Foundation Fellowship as a Fellow, and our founder, James Chong, is serving as a mentor in the 2024 program! The theme for this year’s Fellowship is “Adding Life to Years: Upholding Dignity in Aging,” a mission that deeply aligns with our vision at Rolling Books. Through our work, we foster positive social impact by making reading more accessible and meaningful. This includes engaging “young old” driver advocates as reading ambassadors and harnessing the power of storytelling to transform discussions around traditionally taboo topics, such as end-of-life conversations. I’m excited to share that I have graduated as a Resolve Foundation Fellow this year! Back in February, I stumbled upon a social media post about this program, and the theme of “Adding Life to Years: Upholding Dignity in Aging” immediately resonated with me. As a twice cancer survivor, I’ve often reflected on my experiences. During my recovery, I faced the challenges of relying on others for daily tasks and attending numerous hospital appointments. I discovered that certain healthy habits—such as practicing yoga, incorporating breathwork, and spending time in nature—were instrumental in my healing. Aging is an inevitable part of life, and it’s crucial to ask ourselves: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲? By nurturing our physical and mental health today, we can lay a foundation for a more flourishing tomorrow. Stress management is particularly important as prevention is better than cure. Chronic stress can lead to various illnesses, highlighting the need for effective coping strategies. Movement is equally vital. As we age, we risk losing mobility and muscle mass if we don’t engage in regular physical activity. Incorporating movement—whether through yoga, strength training, or hiking—can help maintain our physical health and enhance our overall quality of life. Spending time in nature while hiking not only promotes physical fitness but also boosts mental well-being, providing a refreshing escape from daily stresses. This understanding inspired me to apply for the Resolve program, which lasted for the past five months. Throughout this journey, I gained new insights and knowledge from my mentors and fellow participants through the workshops. Connecting with passionate individuals dedicated to advocating for our aging society has been both enlightening and motivating. Looking ahead, I aspire to develop programs focused on stress management, movement, and overall well-being. These initiatives can empower individuals to take proactive steps in caring for themselves, fostering both physical and mental health while creating a supportive community. I’m deeply grateful to my mentor Lisa, fellow participants, and the Resolve Team. This experience has been transformative, and I see it as just the beginning of my journey.
