We had an enlightening morning with Warren Ang, Founder and CEO of Voyage 明丘 at our breakfast event this week at the China Club, during which Warren shared with us his first-hand observations from being part of the group launching the Commission on Asian Philanthropy. Co-convened by The Hong Kong Jockey Club's Institute of Philanthropy and Asia Philanthropy Congress (APHIC), the Commission brings together prominent philanthropists from across Asia to provide invaluable insights and recommendations for enhancing philanthropy’s effectiveness and efficiency in the region. This was followed by an engaging and inspiring discussion on the practice of philanthropy in Asia, and its vital role in fostering positive change across the region, which was enjoyed by all. A big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the vibrant conversation. We look forward to continuing these important discussions in the future! #SustainableFinance #AsianPhilanthropy #Philanthropy #CapitalForGood #PBC2024

Our members were truly inspired following our recent after-hours Farm Field Trip to Common Farms in Hong Kong. The innovative indoor farm is reshaping traditional food systems in one of the world's most densely populated cities. Founder and CEO Jessica Naomi Fong shared her journey of addressing food vulnerability, waste, and climate change through sustainable farming practices. During the tour, we gained insights into Common Farms' holistic approach, which seamlessly integrates technological, environmental, and economic factors to establish a sustainable indoor farming operation. As we explored the farm, we were fortunate enough to taste freshly grown greens with intense flavors, providing a sensory experience that truly highlighted the transformative potential of sustainable agriculture. 🌱 #sustainablefinance #foodsystems #impactinvesting

We've witnessed a whole range of Family Office principals talk with complete candour about their success and, in some cases failures. This openness is just one of six characteristics that shone through. SFi members recently had the opportunity to delve into the innovative investment philosophy of Pictet Group, which emphasizes the symbiotic relationship between our economy, the environment, and human health. For a majority of the session, attendees were introduced to innovative sustainable solutions across the entire supply chain which not only focus on the environment but also on creating long term competitive advantage, such as: ♻️Recycling Carbon Fibre: Utilising machine learning and AI to optimise cutting, applying a special resin, and turning recycled fibres into usable products. ☀️AI Energy Demand: Addressing the high energy consumption of AI data centres through efficient cooling solutions, reduced energy use, and clean electricity supply. 🌱 Data Centres: Innovating with hot air heat generation and strategic location planning for green data centres. 💚Additional Innovations: Exploring smart grids and efficient chips that consume less energy. The concept of impact investing continues to gain momentum, yet it faces challenges due to a lack of quantitative definitions. Pictet addresses this by incorporating Dr. Johan Rockström's Planetary Boundaries Framework into investment decisions. By investing in environmental solutions and establishing clear measurements, we not only tackle global challenges but also create new avenues for sustainable economic growth. Wealthy individuals, family offices, and foundations continue to be the driving force in impact investing as institutions face 'steeper than expected' learning curve on impact investing, shares AsianInvestor. Despite impact funds now regularly raising $1 billion-plus and giant asset owners like Dutch pension giant ABP targeting huge impact portfolios, in general, institutional investors continue to face a steep learning curve.
