As a member of Technical Committee 67-08 BSN for Food Safety Management System, one of the ISO committee members, today I have completed my task of providing input regarding the draft changes to the next version of ISO/TS 22002. 😁 The idea is to combine PRPs which general or common to all sectors into 1 document that will be known as ISO/TS 22002-100. Meanwhile, the specific PRP will be further regulated in ISO/TS 22002-1 and so on. Interestingly, when combining the common PRP concept into 1 document that can be used for all food chain categories, some requirements must be generalized, and it may be that requirements that should be strict in a sector must be relaxed. I personally agree with the idea of generalizing PRP, but that doesn't mean eliminating important principles in food safety. We must put the right principles in the right place, at the right level. Hopefully my input will reach and be considered by the ISO board. By the way, the good news (or maybe the bad news), because ISO/TS 22002 will undergo revision, it is very likely that next year there will be FSSC 22000 version 7.0. Alhamdulillah, after 8 years, Catalyst Consulting can hold an activity of this magnitude. Right on the day of celebrating World Food Safety Day, 7 June 2024, Catalyst Consulting is holding a full day training entitled Comprehensive Food Safety Management System, in commemoration of World Food Safety Day: Prepare for The Unexpected. It is a matter of happiness and pride and extraordinary, because this event was attended by no less than 100 participants from 80 companies from almost all food chain categories (C0, CI, CII, CIII, CIV, D, E, FI, G, I, K). This event is held free of charge for MR, FSTL, internal auditor coordinators, or their representatives. This is a form of our appreciation to these parties for being at the forefront in their respective fields in ensuring food safety. This event is an important and strategic initiative to gather collective commitment from business operators in the food sector and related food chains. This morning we will discuss about equipment management, a new requirement in FSSC 22000 version 6.0 which comes into effect on April 1 2024. We will dive deeper regarding hygienic design risk assessment of equipment. Catalyst Consulting

FSSC 22000 version 6.0 becomes mandatory as of 1 April 2024. And interestingly, in the Board of Stakeholders Decision List for the March 2024 period, it is stated that the amendment to ISO 22000 released in February 2024 regarding climate change must be adopted in FSSC 22000 version 6.0. Climate change for us individually, may be almost imperceptible and we are not aware of it. Most likely, we will only complain about the air temperature being a bit hotter or the rainfall being erratic. Today, we learned together about the impact of climate change on various management systems, especially the food safety management system that I specialize in. Climate change apparently has an impact on increasing the number of pathogens in the environment, cases of foodborne disease, increasing environmental temperatures which make it more comfortable and expanding the reach of pests, thus requiring the use of more pesticides, algal blooms expansion, heavy metal contamination, increasing cases of mycotoxins, and so on. Moreover, the impact on food availability which can lead to food fraud. The more you explore climate change topic, the more interesting it becomes. Do we need to create a Climate Change Risk Assessment (CCRA) and Climate Change Impact Chain (CCIC) specifically for this food safety sector? This will be a very long and fun discussion.
