Advanced Grid Interface for Innovative STorage INtegration: enabling industrial Grid users to rapidly deploy renewables
About us
The AGISTIN project brings 14 organizations together to address urgent challenges for industrial grid users, grid operators, renewable developers, storage manufacturers by: ✓ Reducing pressure on grid connection capacity and grid reinforcement requirements for new renewables and industrial demand, beneficial to all grid users and grid operators. ✓ Enabling major classes of industrial grid users to economically integrate significantly more renewables on-site than traditional integration approaches, through DC coupling. ✓ Supporting the grid by providing advanced grid services such as grid forming control, fast frequency response and balancing flexibility that supports grid operators in operating low inertia grids and reducing curtailment of renewables within the emerging European market framework. ✓ Avoiding delay in the electrification and decarbonisation of society using increasingly sustainable approaches, resulting in Mt of CO2 avoided per annum. The project will: ✓ Demonstrate the performance and value of innovative energy storage technologies providing flexibility and grid services ✓ Design advanced grid interfaces to integrate energy storage with industrial grid users and on-site generation, resulting in potential for enhanced economic and technical performance ✓ Demonstrate the technical feasibility of the innovative coupling of multiple forms of energy storage, production and demands into innovative energy systems and novel grid topologies ✓ Enable innovative storage, coupled through the proposed advanced grid integration technologies, to provide the new grid services needed in the energy transition ✓ Reduce material use and embedded emissions by innovative approaches of energy storage integration with industrial grid users. ✓ Propose innovative business models to easily enable energy storage integration with significant grid users

Last Tuesday, September 3rd, Sergi Costa Dilmé from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya presented the AGISTIN paper "𝙈𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞-𝙥𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙨 𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙞𝙯𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙋𝙮𝙤𝙢𝙤: 𝘼𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙚 𝙞𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙨𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙨" at the #OSMSES2024 Conference, Vienna. The paper focused on the work the project team is developing as part of the AGISTIN irrigation system pilot. It introduces an open-source Python-based tool to optimise the operation of irrigation systems and size new equipment. #HorizonEU #EnergyStorage

🌍🔋The AGISTIN project's work on incorporating hydrogen into local energy systems took centre stage at the 3rd Summer School on Integration of Local Energy Systems, held from August 20th to 22nd. Participants enjoyed hands-on experiences in the physics laboratory facilities at the HAW Hamburg Campus Bergedorf, diving deep into cutting-edge hydrogen technologies and their role in shaping sustainable energy futures. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/dAfSt5yA Many thanks to Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and Fraunhofer-Institut für Windenergiesysteme (our partner) for including AGISTIN work in the summer school programme! 👏 #HydrogenEnergy #HorizonEU Photo: © Fraunhofer IWES

It was organized by our colleagues Georg Pangalos, Aline Luxa, Christoph Kaufmann and Abdul Rafey Asim from the Fraunhofer Application Center for the Integration of Local Energy Systems (ILES) together with the Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg (HAW Hamburg) and focused on the #research aspects of the AGISTIN (Horizon Europe project) project. First, the HAW students learned more about local #renewable energy systems and general control theory, as well as #electrolyzer and converter control design. Afterwards the students built models of renewable energy systems, designed the control system, and then implemented it on a real-time simulator to connect them to grid emulators and test real hardware such as the converter of an electrolyzer. Thank you for your participation and your ideas, we are looking out for the next Summer School! More info about the ILES: https://lnkd.in/ezHd8Mvh Photos: © Fraunhofer IWES
