It was an honour to kick off our 4th annual Wellness Week with special guest speaker Dr. Katriona O'Sullivan. She spoke about her journey from unimaginable poverty and trauma to a top-level education, delving into the complex mental health consequences resulting from her trauma; what she has done to recover, and tools she still uses to cope with lasting stressors. Her resilience, commitment to and advocacy for access to education, and unflinching honesty about privilege is powerful. There is much more that should be done by those of us that have more. “The individual”, she says, “is small in the decisions of their life, and we don’t like that because it suggests we’re powerless. But choice is a myth that’s perpetuated by the middle classes – only a few people really can choose.”
